For the San Diego area:

Rancho del Rey, Downtown San Diego, La Jolla, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Rancho Sante Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Poway and some of Carlsbad. Those are the main ones, I am sure I left a couple cities out.

Thanks. Someone told me recently that the cities south of San Diego in CA are betterthan the San Diego area. She mentioned Lagna Niguel. What other great cities are in that area? Thanks again.
 
this has been happpening for the past 2+ years, particularly in the apartment market. much of the money is now looking out of state as s.d. real estate has gotten pricey. when i moved down from l.a. in 1985, s.d. real estate lagged in terms of prices, not so anymore.

thats a peretty good list, but rancho del rey is actually east chula vista - i'd substitute encinitas, pacific beach and point loma for rancho del rey or eastlake. generally: stay west of interstate-5, south of oceanside and from point loma northward (maybe coronado if you want to do the island thing).

one of the best places going is san clemente, which is just a short commute north of san onofre nuclear generators (possible terrorist attack target). its a cool place to live and at the southern extreme of orange county... not cheap, but kinda laid-back and similar to the way some of l.a. (south bay) beaches used to be. if i was moving to socal, id checkout san clemente -
 
Some of the nicest coastal places in Southern California are:

Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Carlsbad, and Del Mar.

If they are too expensive, try these places:

Santa Ana, Lake Forest, Oceanside, and Escondido.

If these are still too pricey, try futher inland, or head East!

forget santa ana and escondido. ocenaside maybe, if you dont have children; o'side is the most afforable beach city in north county, but its also the least desirable (remember that relatively speaking). if you cant afford to pay up from oceanside to carlsbad in terms of renting, you'd best stay where you are:cool: homes are "pretty pricey" in carlsbad :eek:
