but gas is not in the cpi, is it?

but still the consumer, esp in the us is not happy about that, and you can spend your dollar only once...

There are two CPI numbers - with and without foods and energy. The last one is called core CPI.

But first - 9.00 GMT - we will have Euro-zone GDP. Consensus according to Forexnews 0.4% (also heard 0.5%).

A little better than expected - 0.6% - but not much action.

Quote from Baruch:

The big issue today is US Consumer Price Index 12.30 GMT.

Last month it jumped to 0.5. I didn't worry the FED, but if it jumps two monts in a row? I think so - because that means inflation. And a rate hike very soon.

So a surprise in CPI could really move the markets! Consensus are 0.3, and 0.2 for CPI ex food and energy.

Later today - 13.50 GMT - we will also have Michigan Consumer Confidence. Consensus: 96.5. Prior: 94.2. Well, good job reports should mean better consumer confidence - or what?

Jimmy Young has made som good eco news calls before.

Here is his strategy for CPI today:

If:

+ 0.5/ +0.4 Buy USD.
+ 0.1/ 0.0 Sell USD

Profit expectations: 50 pips.

Market seems to wating for CPI - although we might still drop before that - EURO is determined to hang on with GBP leading the way down....

Unless the market is getting ready for a bounce - I just wish is would make up it mind and get it over with.

i have grown rather fond of your journal.
would you mind if i posted some of my observations regarding the FX markets?

i figured that rather than starting a journal on the subject it is better to find a good journal and join it.

John Hary from Saxo Banks thinks CPI today COULD be a "launching pad" for at "dramastic turnaround" in dollar.

Yes, who knows? Inflation is not the same as growth.
