Bars created from broker real-time data feed differ from bars created from eSignal

Quote from thstart:

They do. Just a hint - the big orders institutions want to place are not executed with a click of the mouse. They will make a market impact and don't get a good price. Not to mention HFT here. Now there is a pattern how big orders are sliced and placed in the time. And this time is not minute by minute, but can some times take a week.

Bzzzzzzzttt!!!

Thanks for playing, sparky.

Now, go do some research on crossing networks.

Quote from jprad:

If the first trading hour has greater significance compared to the rest of the trading day then it stands to reason that someone can benefit by breaking up the trading day into bars so that they can more easily visualize what goes on during that first trading hour.

Also, the first trading hour on the NYSE is not the first trading hour for ADRs listed on the NYSE. How does your theory handle that class of stock?

I think you cannot mechanically apply visualization, analysis (technical or other) to every class of instrument and every single instrument. But you necessarily have to because that is the way it is in your software produced for mass consumption.

First - every class of instruments has it own characteristics. Bonds, mutual funds, ETF, stocks are different class of instruments and you don't trade them same way. Usually if you scalp you want a bigger volatility and you pick your class first.

Second - if you pick an instrument in a class, for example stocks, every stock has its own characteristic and if you learn it you can understand better what to do.

Now - from this follows if you mechanically apply a technical visualization or tool to different class of instruments and different instruments without paying attention to individual characteristics which I name "natural", then you will not catch important moves.

If you've got brokerage statements that supports your position, be my guest.

Otherwise, it's just as likely that you're putting up a smokescreen as spite for not being able to use intraday charts profitably.

I think the reason of ET is to learn something new. You use intra-day charts - if you are OK with them fine.

thstart -> Please be specific here "For intraday there other ways. "?

Yes - there are. I mentioned you can PM me.

The problem is your aggressive attitude. If you think you know all, how you will learn something new? To learn something new you have to have an open mind without prejudice. But it is up to you.

As I see this discussion is going nowhere , so better to move to more productive activities.

As an observer, I can see clearly that it's not jprad who is refusing to be open minded.

I think you should re-read your own words carefully.

As an observer who sticks to using bars and candlesticks for intra-day trading you already are biased so you are not open minded.

You display an extraordinary unwillingness to back down, which - I can assure you - does little to help you put yourself forward in the best light.

I think you will get more from ET if you participate more, and preach less.

I am not a preacher, sorry.

A friend told me he is sending private messages to ET members asking them to download his proprietary beta application, which loads data from his server. After visting his website, my friend who is an experienced programmer and IT person, still cannot figure out what he is up to. I would recommend extreme caution...
