i think he'll still get in. gambling on baseball is the unpardonable sin, while juicing wasn't even against baseball's bylaws until last year (or was it '04?). he established his Hall of Fame credentials before '98.
out of protest, the writers may make him sweat it out the first year, but he should get in by his second year of eligibility.
You may be right. Baseball has become a joke. Steroid use is illegal, but it's ok in baseball if it gets fans in the ballparks. Of course, there is some potential for unfairness in penalizing people who have never tested positive, at least that we know of, but it also seems unfair to the players whose records are being broken by cheaters.
Baseball commissioned a special investigation into Pete Rose. Maybe they should do the same for steroids. Instead, they just want the whole subject to go away.
It's not like there is a great big secret of which potential Hall of Famers were likely users. Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, Palmeira come to mind.
Even if the story is true, he broke no MLB rules, as they had no rules against steroids, and no testing.
Baseball itself won't strip him of anything.
