There is a possibility that following Bannon's advice would have resulted in civil war.
Do you think the people who like Bannon will, come 2020, now flip over and vote for whatever leftist nutjob the democrats decide on?
Trump has got a total lock on the right, it is the middle that he needs to pander to.

Attempts to appease the left Is a losing strategy. They will never be pleased as is evident by their immediate response to this. Good, but not good enough is the quick message coming from them. Their ultimate goal is a Trump resignation and/or an administration is chaos. Healthcare falls apart and drives millions out of their coverage, so be it. No tax reform and market crashes, gotta do what we gotta do. Borders collapse and we're at risk of attack, got to break a few eggs to make an omelette. Growing tensions with Russia and a accidental shot get fired leading to war, ain't our fault. The eye is on 2020. Only a complete collapse of the country gives them a shot. Trump even has modest success and they're screwed in all upcoming events.
I lived in Bangkok for years and saw the "good people" , yes that is the literal translation of what they called themselves, protest and scream for the outing of the elected premier Thaksin and then later his elected sister. They got their wish and for the last 3 years a crazed dictator clown from the military has ruled.

Such a great post. But we thought Trump knew that. Now, other than Kellyann, his handlers are people who likely didn't even vote for him.
I am beginning to think it already has. The republican congress would like to get rid of Trump but realize voters would not react well. So he is allowed to stay, provided he lets a bunch of retried generals run the country. Bannon wasn't sticking around to lend his imprimatur to that.
I'm reminded of what Maher said about the Trump "circus".
