Uh, because it's dangerous out there? If I were a cop, I'd hunker down, too. Let the beasts kill each other and then come out when it's time to mop up.
 
If you're a cop, you can try to do your job and risk getting prosecuted by the obama-clones running the city and the state's attorney's office. Or you can sit back and cover your ass.
