How are cops not trained to deal with people with mental illness? Especially dementia. All of this happened over $13 at Walmart. Cops need to be way, way more patient. This cop should never be allowed to put a badge on again. I agree that it's time to end qualified immunity for police officers as well.

Putting patience aside..... cop cannot detain an old lady without breaking her arms? There seems to be this bully/brute quality permeating through the police force where they no longer know the difference between a real criminal requiring force and just a normal citizen... as usual the training sucks.
 
How did the cop know this old demented lady had a weak shoulder?

Should the cops just let old people get away with everything they do that is criminal?

You’re right, it’s best to just tackle old ladies over $13 within the first few seconds of them not complying. Assume they are MS-13 first, find out if they’re mentally ill later.

I think its their egos and power trips as well,I doubt police academies are telling cadets to break the arms of sr citizens.A lot of cops are people who were bullied throughout life and now have the badge,gun and hundreds of other cops as back up so they now have the courage to fight back when someone doesn't respect.

The cop may have done much more damage to the elderly woman had the concerned citizen not pulled up behind the Police car and got out to start videotaping what was occurring.

It concerned the Police Officer so much...he stop doing what he was doing to give the concerned citizen a hard time including accusing him of "interfering".
  • I would not be surprised if the police report by the arresting officers must have been written that the elderly woman was either on drugs or showed super human strength or threaten the Police Officer.
I have three friends (we served together in the military) that are Police Officers in the United States (Chicago, Kentucky and South Dakota)...they all have been trained in how to recognize / manage encounters with people having a mental crisis.
  • They know there are bad apples among them.
Cops rarely snitch on each other and that puts the weight on the public to legally hold the bad apples accountable for their actions. Cell phone video and/or bodycam video has been a very useful tool in holding the bad apples accountable.

Anyone notice how the more rapid the underlying tempo of music has gotten over the years, the more excessive the responses?

We need to chillaxin', man.
