Backtest Time Frame - newbie question

Quote from Trader666:

Jack can still be with us in spirit :D Here are my two favorite Hershey quotes on backtesting:

Backtesting is not a viable means for finding anything out. The reason why is fairly straightforward to determine. If you are backtesting something and you feel you have grasp the thing you are backtesting, then you have failed to really grasp what (the thing) is going on.

and

It is not possible for a person who does not know what is going on to back test this stuff. I have stated it. And it just flows from there using boolean algebra.

I think you're quoting Hypo's writing. :D

NO! Those quotes are pure Jack. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.

OK, you'll be awarded Reader of the Year. :D

Please note: probably Jack so far has been trying to warn up your guys a little bit before presenting his real stuff.

Quote from Grob109:

Fortunately, I am going to make my mechanical systems public to others.

...

By using the mechanical version of the manual method and making a lot of money at the same time. By making it public, I feel that its transference can also be tested. I know these tests will not be valid since they will only be done by the A people and not the B people.

Jack's telling people that his methods cannot be backtesed and backtesting is not useful would be a good way to drive people to pay more attention and follow him without too many questions.

Perhaps he uses backtesting at home frequently. :D

Found a proof from the thread you cited.

Quote from Grob109:

I've noticed over the last 15 years that when my prints are backtested, there is always a range of results that are spread over more than one order of magnitude.

An order of magnitude? A meaningless statement, unless one end was 3 cent expectancy and the other was 30 cents, haha! But there you have the core of the argument: the provable vs. the unprovable.

I really think he's got a gifted talent in attracting people following him.

I'm seriously considering to join forces with him for a business venture of selling dreams to novice traders. :D
