Rand is a bundle of conflicting ideas. Chomsky considered her to be "evil." "Randâs relationship with the right has always been at best cold and at worst, openly hostile. It is no secret that Rand despised influential The National Review. Whitaker Chambers wrote perhaps the most withering review of Atlas Shrugged after its release, while William F. Buckley fairly gloated in Rand's NR obituary that "Ayn Rand is dead. So, incidentally, is the philosophy she sought to launch dead; it was in fact stillborn." She disapproved of racism but was homophobic. Incidentely, Alan Greenspan was one of her students, while Limbaugh and Co. like to quote her. Modern philosophers as well have not taken her seriously. As for being the the "2nd most influential book next to the bible," that too is most likely bunk as fewer than 10% of Americans have actually read her.
(n.b. Wikipedia was consulted here as it was the easiest way to find a consolidated opinion of her. Everything I've read concerning AR leans toward the negative...and her followers somewhat cult like and self serving boors.
