AWESOME news for Obama, democrats, terrorists and other enemies of America

Don't quote me but I think if they are found not guilty or any other bs except guilty in a civil trial the next step is a military trial.

These guys are not going anywhere.

Everyone should be able to air their criticism of stupid US foreign policy.

The liberals must be dancing in the streets.

NEW YORK – The five men facing trial in the Sept. 11 attacks will plead not guilty so that they can air their criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, the lawyer for one of the defendants said Sunday.

Scott Fenstermaker, the lawyer for accused terrorist Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, said the men would not deny their role in the 2001 attacks but "would explain what happened and why they did it."

The U.S. Justice Department announced earlier this month that Ali and four other men accused of murdering nearly 3,000 people in the nation's deadliest terrorist attack will face a civilian federal trial just blocks from the World Trade Center site.

Ali, also known as Ammar al-Baluchi, is a nephew of professed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Mohammed, Ali and the others will explain "their assessment of American foreign policy," Fenstermaker said.

"Their assessment is negative," he said.

The Justice Department is doing the right thing here, and I see nothing wrong with this at all.

Giving the accused his day in court- no matter how heinous or vile the alleged offense, is simply the American thing to do.

Quote from tmarket:

Forgotten somewhere is all this noise is that alleged Al-Qaeda conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui was tried and convicted in U.S. District Court in Alexandria,VA. If the US can do that, why shouldn’t KSM be tried in civilian court?

Rudy Giuliani, BTW, applauded Moussaoui’s trial saying that it showed we are a “nation of law.” http://mediamatters.org/research/200911130056

I think this article is important for the message it sends to the world ---- We are a nation of law.

Imo, we are trying to prove this point boldly hence the trial in NYC.

What is the real reason though?

Prosecution is not our priority these days, prevention is our priority.

Our weapon on the war on terror is focused on prevention and to accomplish this effectively?

Questionable legal tactics.

So while this "nation of law" is on display via a public prosecution trial, there is much not to like with the patriot act etc without a firm basis on law, that perhaps the gov't hopes we (or the world) will overlook because of the civilian trial.
