Average of 5 pt a day trading ES realistic?

Quote from increasenow:

sure if you literally sit at the computer for all 6.5 hours during RTH and not to mention ALL the hours the ES is trading then sure...easy to make 5 ES points...

do you not agree that, at the least, if one sits at the computer for 6.5 hours, they can get at least 5 ES points...

lol, lots of people sit at the screen a lot longer than that and end up LOSING money, nevermind it being easy to MAKE 5 points per day if only you were willing to spend time screenwatching!

You imply that the only pre-requisite for making money trading is the ability to be able to concentrate for the trading day.
Its not as easy as you would like to believe. Trust me.

hmm..I wonder how I would honestly do if I did nothing but trade for 6.5 hours at least...hmmm

increasenow has a very simplistic view of the world and of reality.

Can a moderator ban increasenow?? :) He is just messing with us and its annoying to read.
no, I simply ask the questions or state the premises that others want to ask or are already thinking...I never curse, put people down or trash talk...those should be 'banned'...

Quote from Pekelo:

See OP? It is possible! Someone with 1 post under his belt says so with no proof posted, only his word.

But why would we doubt him? I think you are credible before proven a liar. :)

I don't need to prove anything. If you run some advanced time series analysis you can see that the ES contract is fairly predictable in many different time frames. Then again, you need a robust knowledge in market microstructure.

Quote from 1prometheus:

Those who say it is possible have either:

1.) been trading a very short time and started strong
2.) been trading for some time, recently had a hot run, and think it is sustainable (it is not)
3.) are bald faced liars

Regardless it does not matter and is a fairly pointless concern. You can get very rich with an average profit per day of 1 point. Please understand I mean average, not literally making 1 point a day.

4) have a M.S. in financial engineering with a statistical background

You seem to have been just 'treading water' for ages and ages.

That's not necessarily an insult, because I am in a similar boat and have been trading for years and years and haven't really got anywhere.
I've spent about 800 days staring at the charts for 12 hours per day. Some live trading and some demo trading.

Why dont you answer your own question and actually spend the whole day trading (either in a demo account or a live account) for a few months and post propper blotters at the end of each day.

Helps too to have a fresh nick so your old baggage doesn't follow you.

because that is not my goal as a trader...I want to make 1-2 highly profitable trades per day and go on with my other ventures...

Averaging 5 points a day, is it realistic? certainly not.
Change the word "points" by "ticks", and yes, averaging 5 ticks a day is possible for an experienced trader.
Still only very few traders manage to pull 5 ticks a day clean of commission.
5 points is a dream, it won't happen.
5 ticks is more than enough to enjoy a nice living
