These are three that I am familiar with and they will be a substantial amount of money.

I would guess the larger MM's would use proprietary software.

Proprietary means that it’s their own internal software that we don’t know anything about. This usually includes all the secretive multi-billion hedge funds and market makers.
If you’re looking to create your own proprietary software and need developers, then Upwork is quite popular.
