The Department of Justice on Monday said Christopher Carnell, 20, of Cary, and David Worth Bowman, 21, of Raleigh, were charged with felony obstructing, influencing or impeding any official preceding for their actions on Jan. 6.

The two were also charged with four misdemeanors, including:
  • Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority
  • Engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct in any restricted building or grounds
  • Entering or remaining on the floor of a House of Congress without authorization
  • Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in any of the Capitol buildings
Carnell was arrested on Thursday, March 2. Bowman was arrested Monday.

According to court documents, Carnell and Bowman were captured on surveillance video entering the Senate floor on Jan. 6. They were seen "rifling through papers on Senators' desks" and joining a crowd of people chanting "treason."

FBI agents used search warrants obtained in December to search Bowman's cell phone, where both men were documented in the riot.

According to the DOJ, nearly 1,000 people have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the U.S. Capitol riot.

As of Monday, 29 people from North Carolina have been arrested and charged with crimes connected to the insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol.

The Jan. 6 rioter dubbed “Spider-Nazi” has gotten himself caught in the FBI’s web.

Brandon Kelly Dillard, of Las Vegas, wore a Supreme spider web-patterned hoodie to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as he broke into the building alongside other Donald Trump supporters looking to overthrow the government, the feds said.

He’s now been arrested for knowingly entering and remaining in a building without lawful authority, disorderly conduct of government business, and uttering “loud, threatening, or abusive” language at the Capitol building with the intent to disturb a session of Congress, according to a complaint.

Photos of Dillard at the Capitol were quickly spread by online sleuths, who gave him the #SpiderNazi nickname in the aftermath of the violent riot. The feds even credited them for the witty label.

Footage obtained by the FBI shows Dillard, geared up in a Supreme knit cap to match his sweatshirt and a mask, climbing the Capitol walls. He entered through a broken window outside a Senate conference room and can be seen on video slithering in and out of the building.

Dillard traveled from McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas to northern Virginia on Jan. 5, 2021, and departed for home Jan. 8, according to the FBI. Back in Vegas, his mom runs a wig shop named Vegas Girl Wigs at a local swap meet, as of 2017.

More than 1,000 people have been arrested for the violent and deadly riot at the Capitol thus far.

We All Saw This Coming
The challenge this morning is how to alert you to a big dump of new misinformation without amplifying and validating it. The good news: This is an easier task when Kevin McCarthy and Tucker Carlson are involved because it is so transparent.

The speaker of the House gives special exclusive access to the security footage of the Jan. 6 attack on Congress to the leading propagandist minimizing, dismissing, and counter-programming the failed coup. What did you think was going to happen?

Monday night, Carlson began using the footage (much of which was already turned over to defense attorneys for the Jan. 6 rioters) to reinforce and continue to promulgate his made-up narrative that the attack consisted of peaceful “sightseers” touring the Capitol under escort:

More than 44,000 hours of surveillance footage from in and around the Capitol have been withheld from the public, and once you see the video, you’ll understand why. Taken as a whole, the video does not support the claim that Jan. 6 was an insurrection. In fact, it demolishes that claim.

Reporters who have covered the Jan. 6 attack and the criminal justice aftermath spent Monday evening debunking the Carlson segment in various ways: the footage isn’t actually new or unseen, it was selectively presented by Carlson, things he claimed were new or unknown were old and known, etc.

But of course the game plan here isn’t for McCarthy to simply provide Carlson with new fodder for predictable if outrageous segments on his show. In a pattern we all know too well, the Carlson segment takes the raw material and transmogrifies into even better, more useful fodder for all manner of elected Republicans, Jan. 6 deniers, other right-wing news outlets, and MAGA world.
