I had seen this interview with Goodhart is all, I have not read the book but I remember at the time thinking that I'm a, volatile, "in-between" as I have a very rooted side but also a very "portable identity" as he terms it.
I am no expert on the man but I am confident he would say that the extremes of left and right are bad news for ordinary people. He says that far right like Trump is not offering an actual solution to the problems the too liberal and cerebral "anywhere" class' policy mistakes.
I am actually going to look at more of his interviews as this one is all I have seen a few years ago. I try to avoid reading too much from people I know I will agree with, massaging my confirmation bias is decadent

But I think I have more to learn from his experience with UK and Europe the past few years, we need solutions that won't tip the boat over into chaos, fast. Thanks for re-introducing Goodhart to me.
Sure.
The middle is always great, in theory.
But let's face it:
USA, EU have highest numbers of immigrants ever.
But the home countries of most refugees, or countries in that area, have NO refugees or immigrants from other parts in the world!
Where is here the middle?!
"This middle" is something that is easily being sold to us...
What I see is islamization,
wokism in a strange way (criticize the West population, don't you dare to criticize immigrants the same way),
many black africans very often feel offended, whereas same dark skinned Indian people have no problems to live in parts of the West, go to work, be diligent, etc. -
even become prime minister or almost US presidential candidate.
Sure, east asian people look at this and almost foresee the inevitable problems, we will face.
Now asian people come to Canada and US,
one day maybe they and western people will go to China, Thailand etc.
Start to learn some Mandarin!
Well it's 4 more Years of Trump. Hopefully it's 4 more Years of Comedy on ET by the maga Hillbillies.
You are just one of those traitors.
Everything is funny and easy for you self proclaimed "intellectual highflyer",
because others are paying for this policy.
And those people don't care you a dime.
Have fun with Trump,
and later with Vance or another Republican.
(I know you are european, but still...
Le Pen is right around the corner)
