At Least Four Dead After Shooting In Fredericton, Canada

Yeah... yet the number of shootings in Canada done with handguns rises every year. So much for "sensible approach to gun control" --- more like a completely failed approach to gun control.
It's the rate more than the number of shooting that is important. How fast it that rising. How many years, assuming the shootings rate in Canada continues growing at its present, say 10 year average growth rate, will it be before the Canadian rate catches the U.S. rate, assuming the U.S. rate stays constant. If it is going to be over a Century, I would not be overly concerned for Canada.

What is the shootings rate doing relative to population growth rate. How many years, assuming the shootings rate in Canada continues growing at its present, say 10 year average growth rate, will it be before the Canadian rate catches the U.S. rate, assuming the U.S. rate stays constant. The gun violence rate increase in Canada is far greater than the population increase over the recent years.

"As of Oct. 2, Toronto has endured 297 shootings—an average of one shooting every day—which left 434 victims with varying degrees of injury in their wake. In terms of absolute numbers, no other Canadian city comes close to the number of shootings and shooting victims, and shootings in Toronto increased 41 per cent between 2015 and 2016; this year’s numbers are on par with the previous year’s, too."

"In Regina, there has been a 94-per-cent increase in violent offences involving guns over the five-year average, and a 163-per-cent increase in the number of victims of firearms offences between 2015 to 2016. "

I have only the statistics for all gun homicides in Canada broken down. Statistically there is no increase or decrease in the gun homicide rate in Canada in the most recent ten years for which complete data is available, ending 2016, as compared to the prior ten years ending 2006. The average gun homicide rate per 100K population was 0.57 for the earlier ten year period and 0.51 for the period ending 2016. * Whereas Toronto may have somewhat of a local flare up (By Canadian standards at least) there is as yet no evidence for a longer term upward trending gun homicide rate in Canada. (Oh Canada, Our Home and Native Land. True Patriot Love from All our Sons [and Daughters] Demand...) The US comparable rate is approximately 8 times greater, by the way, and I have no information to suggest what its trend is, but I am suspicious that, if it is doing anything, it is going down.

All of this reminds me of the story I have told before in this hallowed repository of absurdities. In 1976 I was enjoying a glass of beer in a Toronto watering hole when I happened to remark how very safe late at night the Toronto streets seemed to me, a lowly inhabitant of their crime ridden Southern neighbor. "Oh," the buxom barmaid said, "It's terrible!, We had a murder last year!" So there you go Toronto media [in which my distant Canadian family is heavily invested], you may, in 1975, have missed your chance to shout, "Toronto Under Siege; Infinite Rate of Increase in the Homicide Rate!!!" But it is apparently not too late to get at least a 100% increase out of "Rampant Toronto Crime". I hope everyone up North has donned their bullet proof vests. :D

More anecdotal evidence you're seeking out just to win the argument.
The reality is gun crime is roughly the same or even declining if you adjust for population growth.

Indeed. See my post #73 above in response to gwb- which I was maniacally typing while you were posting. Now the question is Why does Mexico send all their nice guys to Canada and all their rapists and murderers to the U.S. I guess we'll have to ask the Donald.

1. You can't grow jalapenos in Canada.
2. It's too cold for raping.

I mean...seems pretty obvious to me.

Gwb_Trading just posts a lot of shit on this site. He abuses statistics and cherry picks news stories to meet whatever narrative he wants to sell. First article I found on North Carolina showed as of 2016 gun related crimes were trending up to levels far higher then Toronto.

Actually that is my understanding too. Time for sensible, Canadian like controls on hand guns???. When I think gun control I think "type" of gun. Barrel length, semi automatic or not, etc. Ammunition, etc. I like Canada's sensible approach to gun control.

Wouldn't work in the US, as was stated repeatedly. Too many guns in circulation. All you'd do is prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves while giving criminals free reign.

Post your link you claim you found about North Carolina. Prove that gun related crimes in North Carolina are trending to levels far higher than Toronto. Considering that the homicide rate in Toronto is far higher than New York City --- and North Carolina is lower than New York City -- one can only state your assertions are bogus. As usual you never back up your claims.

Toronto's homicide rate is now higher than New York's

https://www.blogto.com/city/2018/06/toronto-homicide-rate-now-higher-new-york/

Clearly I back up my claims with Canadian government statistics and in-depth Canadian news articles for all of my points about healthcare, education, and crime in Canada.
