At 13 Baltimore City high schools, zero students tested proficient on 2023 state math exam

Teachers are paid to get students to pass these tests. School curriculum is designed to pass these tests....The schools design these tests.... I can see why these failed teachers want to call these tests racist and just move on

I actually think these proficiency exams should stop at about 8th grade. Lets be honest here, you cannot pass a HS algebra test and you don’t really need to be able to in life.

These proficiency exams are more for college bound kids.

Just to note, it's doesn't say anywhere in that article that algebra is involved. They simply say "state math exam", although one would think algebra is in there.

I have a child in high school right now. Honors everything, AP track. Aces every standardized test and it makes zero difference.

Person, woman, man, camera, TV with extra points for saying them in the correct order, that all the exam Mercor might pass now. Put the top on the solvent can Mercor.

Should there be testing done at the end of each grade year to make sure students are not advancing without having the knowledge base needed for the next school year

How does it help anyone ( except teachers and staff ) to graduate students who cant read or do math

Most of the reading you do is at a sixth grade level, occasionally eighth grade. The New York Times is a tenth grade reading level. You probably have not used algebra outside of school ever. There really is no sense in making every kid college ready IMO.

A lot of what is getting lost in all of this discussion is this testing stuff can turn kids off of school and the socialization benefits of school. School is a training for a successful work life as adults. Showing up everyday, on time, clock in, do your work, clock out. Giving kids that structure and schedule is just as important to success in life.

Thomas Sowell said that: Each new generation is a new crop of barbarians who must be civilized. Heh. Some truthiness there.
