A top expert at the World Health Organization on Tuesday walked back her earlier assertion that transmission of the coronavirus by people who do not have symptoms is “very rare.”

Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, who made the original comment at a W.H.O. briefing on Monday, said that it was based on just two or three studies and that it was a “misunderstanding” to say asymptomatic transmission is rare globally.

“I was just responding to a question, I wasn’t stating a policy of W.H.O. or anything like that,” she said.

Dr. Van Kerkhove said that the estimates of transmission from people without symptoms come primarily from models, which may not provide an accurate representation. “That’s a big open question, and that remains an open question,” she said.

We have had suspciously very bad data from the get go.
Lots of terrible decisions have been made by "experts" ... not based on data.

Then all of sudden riots are not shutdown for public safety concerns?
The experts are virtually silent.

We find out the infection fatality rate is not much different than the flu at about .3 per the CDC data.

Then the WHO admits the virus is rarely transmitted by those with no symptoms... which could be 35 to 50 percent of the cases... or more..

we still don't have any science showing there was a reason to lock down the low risk group (healthy) once the hospital beds were not being utilized. .

The WHO said there are member countries who reported that is very rare for asymptomatic to spread.

The WHO said what we should do is concentrate of testing and tracing the symptomatic.

which is exactly what I have said given that we have clusters and probably 80 percent or more of this virus is spread by super spreaders.

If asymptomatic people don't transmit the virus then we should have just treated this like the flu and you stay home if not feeling well or showing symptoms At risk people in nursing homes and senior assisted facilities should have been on restrictive visitors and semi quarantined.

Then it was really like the flu with respect to how it spread.

If it was only spread by people with symptoms then we all went down the wrong road. We could have had a different plan all along.

But this particular virus is more dangerous because fewer people have partial or complete immunity, because there is no vaccine. And there is no highly efficacious treatment, and the percent that go on to develop a life threatening pneumonia may be higher.**

We could have had a different plan all along (wide spread testing for active infection. contact tracing, and uniform data collection and reporting) but we didn't. Instead we had a Massive failure of Leadership from the Administration in Washington.

I would add that from the data we are being given...this virus is dangerous for the old and those with co morbidities and those around the sick. (They do need to be isolated)

As you get younger and healthier this gets more like the flu. As for the healthy young and healthy kids... (kids particularly) they seem to neither infect people or get symptoms very often (statisically speaking) .

Until this press release, the pre-eliminary studies & experts said asymptomatic carriers were contagious. It's the stickiness of dealing w/a novel virus, shit's subject to change. That's not to say the crazies didn't run with pseudo science & bunk sources saying similar things like Jem here.

The science has never changed, nor has it been wrong. Presymptomatic (who by definition are asymptomatic) will be capable of transmitting the disease. Exactly the same as with other Corona viruses. The confusion comes because horribly flawed "dip stick-like" serological tests identified many as positive for Corona-2 antibodies that were not. And then the CDC inter-mingled data from accurate RT-PCR tests for live virus with much more voluminous data from faulty, quick serological tests.

And then of course you have conspiracy nuts like jem. Nothing can be done about that.

and... for instance in San Diego none under 19 died.
So for them it is the flu or (for the asymptomatic less than a flu)

However, I know one kid who tested positive and had symptoms.. for them it was a lot like flu.
