Agreed. It's a grab bag of rules and regulations. All contrary to the 2nd Amendment, of course, which says "right to bear arms shall not be infringed". Aren't all of these state laws "infringements" on 2A?

Your analogy is weak. Last I checked, people weren't buying cars for self-defense. What is the primary purpose of cars? To transport people/things from one place or another. What is the primary purpose of guns? To kill things. Cars help keep the economy going, guns not so much.
