IL had 97%... and they came in with a whopping 961
Now.... how many kids weren't even included in the numbers because they weren't even in school.

Good for Mississippi but the graduation rate does not tell the tale. You have to look at proficiency scores.
People don’t realize that America has a fragmented education system. It really is a state by state issue because the states control the education systems and funding in their states.
We do not have national standards. We tried to institute common core maybe a decade ago to bring some continuity to the country’s education system but of course that failed because red states have a very difficult successfully educating their children. So we have all kinds of disparities throughout the US.
As I have mentioned you cannot compare schools in places like Massachusetts and New Jersey to Oklahoma and Georgia. It’s worlds apart. And don’t get me wrong MA and NJ aren’t perfect but those states on their own can compete with the highest performing countries in the world.
So when you look at graduation rates in Mississippi, you have to understand you’re not comparing it at a world class level of proficiency. And when you say America’s education system is shitty, it’s really a state by state issue.

Kind of a funny SAT story…
I went to a party the night before my SATs, along with half of the school. I show up for the test the next morning feeling like hell and see most other kids in the room are in rough shape too. So we get into it and about 20 minutes in one kid stands up and proceeds to vomit all over his test and the desk and the floor.
We had to move to a different room to finish but it ended we couldn’t use the test because of the movement from one room to another broke some rule. So we had to do a special make up test 2 weeks later to get our score in that cycle. Good times.
I dont have faith in public schools... failing kids are graduated all the time to be passed on and pushed out the door.... I think looking deeper at national standardized tests on reading and math could help paint a clearer picture. Its like saying 90% of all athletes graduate high school but how many of them are pushed out with softball grades so they can go play D1.
In all honesty though Ocho... there is a certain percentage of fault that needs to be assigned to the parents. How great or how little is up for debate, but you can't deny the importance of parental participation in their kids' education. As Small pointed out... that's why Asian kids as a whole do so well, as do Indian kids. Look how many CEO's are of Indian decent. A LOT.
