more i think about it, it's making more sense
US futures open at 1700 CT. night session is actually the start of the daily bar for the next day
similar in asia, night session is beginning of new daily bar
difference is there is huge break in asia between end of night session and start of day session (6 hours), which makes it seem like it's just an extension of the day session

in fact, friday's night session is the beginning of the following monday's daily bar

Stop thinking in terms of the time zone where you reside. And start thinking in terms of the time zone of the financial instrument. Then it will make much more sense and is less confusing.
