As Southwest Airlines continues to sort out its mess, Buttigieg is steamed

"The outage comes as a result of the failure of the FAA's NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) system". The FAA has now ordered a ground stop across the country. It is not known when the system will be restored.

It is not clear yet if this system failure was simply due to a hardware/software fault or due to malicious hacker activity.

Think they'd tell us if that was in fact the case, ie a Russian or Chinese hack just testing the waters?
We'll know more if the lights go out later I guess.

Apparently the outage was caused by an IT worker incorrectly replacing one file with another -- causing the entire system to come down. This also serves to underline that the FAA is operating using decades old faltering technology that is effectively being held together with bubble gum and duct tape.

Infrastructure problems in Texas cause power outages, NPC response is "Abbot bringing misery to Texas". Infrastructure problems cause FAA issues, "its an IT worker's fault - software needs to be better".
