As CEOs Abandon Trump, Advisory Council Disbands




The trickle of chief executives departing President Donald Trump's advisory councils has turned into a torrent.

Amid widespread outrage over the president's response to the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Va., this weekend -- a response that Trump doubled down on late Tuesday afternoon, saying that "both sides" were at fault -- more executives have left his advisory councils, an exodus that appears to have led to demise of both councils.

Immediately following manufacturing council resignations from Campbell Soup CPB +0.35% CEO Denise Morrison and 3M MMM +0.28% CEO Inge Thulin, the president took to Twitter TWTR +0.5% to say that he is ending both the Strategic and Policy Forum and the Manufacturing Jobs Initiative.

Rather than putting pressure on the businesspeople of the Manufacturing Council & Strategy & Policy Forum, I am ending both. Thank you all!

Before you quit, you're fired. LOL. Disappointed in the gutless business leaders of this country caving to the radical left. GOP "leadership" in total pussified mode as well. Calling out both sides of this riot as equally violent, equally full of hate, equally despicable was and is the truth. Is speaking truth the politically right thing? Obviously not in a world of pussies.
 
Threatened with mob violence business leaders are folding like cheap suits. We have moved past simple boycotts of business. We're now in a it's okay to vandalize and destroy property if one feels their cause is just. While I can understand people trying to stop the mob from goose stepping into their business and destroying property, at some point we must make a stand. Appeasing the mob has never worked. They are coming as the media and democratic leadership excuses their behavior. This will only serve to embolden the mob. This gets really ugly from here.

They are not under any threat. It is virtue signaling. They have PR firms and marketing departments who advise them to get out in front and avoid any possible accusation with the career killer label of racism.

It's highly interesting that the left and Big Business are in bed together and both are trying to undermine a businessman president who wants to restore America's economy. Of course, companies like amazon and Walmart are heavily dependent on cheap Chinese crap. Others like the concept of government paying for things like health care for large immigrant families.

Businessman Carl Icahn departs role advising Trump on regulations

Businessman Carl Icahn announced on Friday that he will step away from his role as a special advisor to President Donald Trump on regulatory reform issues -- a decision he claims was made to avoid the suggestion of conflicts of interest by critics of the administration.

In a letter to Trump posted by Icahn to his personal website, he describes the nature of his position as informal, noting he had "no duties whatsoever" -- as opposed to the recently named administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Neomi Rao. In the letter, Icahn further dismisses suggestions that he had the opportunity to personally benefit from the role.

"I never had access to nonpublic information or profited from my position, nor do I believe that my role presented conflicts of interest," wrote Icahn, adding, "I never sought any special benefit for any company with which I have been involved, and have only expressed views that I believed would benefit the refining industry as a whole."

Trump announces end to manufacturing council amid resignations


The announcement from Icahn, the founder and majority shareholder of conglomerate Icahn Enterprises, comes days after a number of business leaders resigned from the White House's American Manufacturing Council in the aftermath of Trump's response to last weekend's violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. The American Manufacturing Council disbanded on Wednesday, as did a second, separate panel of CEOs, dubbed the Strategic and Policy Forum.

Icahn's letter made no mention of Charlottesville.

The businessman, an early endorser of Trump's, was frequently praised by the Republican presidential nominee on the campaign trail in 2016. Trump portrayed Icahn as a master negotiator who would assist his potential administration in preventing the outsourcing of jobs by American corporations.

"If Ford or another company announces they want to move their jobs to Mexico or another country, then I will pick up the phone… I will call the executives or I’ll have Carl Icahn do it," Trump said on one such occasion in Michigan in October 2016.

A billionaire, Icahn first began to make his name in the 1980s when he engaged in the earliest of his numerous corporate takeovers by which he accumulated the majority of his wealth.
 
Some legal experts say that Icahn might be in legal trouble over this refinery.

Talk about draining the swamp and replacing it with corporate welfare.
