Army Now Has Female Infantry Officers

Continuing Obama's relentless push to politicize the military and use it to force radical social change, the Army is touting the commissioning of 22 females to lead infantry and armor combat units. It's like being a grunt is not tough enough, now you have to contend with some woman as your platoon leader. Just hope she's doesn't go hysterical or start crying if you're attacked.

The article gushes in typical USAToday fashion about how great this is:" Having female leaders in jobs such as the infantry is important, since they can serve as role models for enlisted women who may elect to join the infantry or other ground combat jobs." Incidentally, that is not a quote, it is "reporting", ie the writer's own comments.

The reality is even fewer enlisted women than men want to be in a position to get shot, blown up or captured. The few that do would probably feel better with a competent man leading their unit than some woman put in there to satisfy feminist politicians. What this is about is careerist female officers who resent the fact that their path to promotion is hindered by lack of combat leadership time on their resumes. Effectiveness, safety of troops, etc all have to take a back seat.

The article does mention that infantry is tough work, with troops having to bear body armor and packs that can go to 100 pounds. We know women cannot do that, so I suppose there will have to special accommodations made. I'm sure ISIS will be ok with that.

there are plenty of boys who when they got drafted looked like they couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag and went to to Victory (before viet nam.)

It's incredibly sexist of you to think that a woman, if trained properly, can't be a good soldier.

I never said an individual woman, carefully selected and properly trained, couldn't be a good soldier. The problem is that neither of those criteria will be observed. With the military we are talking mass production, not custom built. In general, women are not suited to infantry and certainly should not be leading men into armed, perhaps hand to hand combat. Any unit with women in it is at an immediate disadvantage and with a female leader is at a permanent disadvantage. War is not a university faculty lounge. Our enemies don't give a crap about PC, diversity or gender equity.

Do you want a platoon leader or company commander who is half crazy one week a month? When you might be out in jungle for weeks or months at a time, in constant danger?

Be my guest, but I would advise any friends or relatives to avoid the military if possible. Obama and Bush managed to destroy an institution that had been laboriously rebuilt from the dark days of post Vietnam.

You made all sorts of silly statements in your original post. I get that you're not for the concept of female infantry. But I'd be willing to bet my familiarity with soldiers is just a tad higher than yours, and I've seen some girls that can kick ass in combat.

Political correctness gets people killed. Unfortunately, it's not the politicians and activists. More likely it's some poor kid from the inner city or Appalachia who gets killed because he was in a unit with women who freaked out in the face of the enemy.

Some of you think because you watched GI Jane and Medal of Honor you understand how women will react in combat. I don't blame the women either. What kind of society sends girls out to do the killing for them?

if g-d forbid we ever have to reinstate the draft, then finally we will see if men and women are different in the minds of the American people.
