I was just talking with a famous enough European actor about travel for work and he sent me this. Yep, sometimes it's better to find your own way.

It just struck me that have you not already seen it, you will enjoy a documentary I saw a few weeks ago, Finding Vivian Maier (2013). I watched it through which is rare considing my usual multitasking state much of the time :) I expect it was on Netflix or Amazon?

She had a surprising connection to France, many thinking her lost in a French identity fantasy haha. Won't spoiler it.

I'm aware of her story and have not seen the movie about her.

When Ms. Maier died, my mom called me (years later when the world of photography found out about her) and asked me have I ever heard of her. I said no and asked her the same considering my mom use to do a lot of Photo Workshops in the Chicago area and France in the 70s to 80s before doing freelance photo work.

My mom said she's had a lot of students that are very secretive or eccentric types but artistic. Many were 20 to 30 years older than her and some would even use fake names but my mom didn't care because most of the time she was paid with cash.

It's possible my mom may have come across Ms. Maier but just didn't know it considering we lived in the north suburbs of Chicago and my mom had a lot of students that did street photography...we often travelled and lived in other countries while keeping Evanston as our home base.

It's a big miss had they not come across each other...both French, living in the north suburbs of Chicago, both strong interest in photography with one (Mr. Maier) struggling financially and the other traveling the world, getting paid as a freelance photographer while being the wife of a U.S. military officer.

Its worth a look, she was unknown until accidentally discovered in an auction after death (you know this, just for anyone else).

The rare recluse who actually has a phenomenal talent. I'd like to think some days some of the more barking mad ET'ers have some secret interesting talent but that's too fanciful really.

My own mom was an artist, good but not prolific though involved in a lot of committees etc. supporting art of all kinds. It gives a view of the world one might have never engaged with.
 
Well a very interesting morning in the southern city of Perpignan not far from the Spanish border with my childhood friend. I'm very surprised to see the city has a lovely canal, I was here several days in the 80s and have no memory of it whatever. Perhaps I never saw it then.

I had an interesting chat about the potential use of SSRIs as novel anti-inflammatories with a client of my friend who we needed to see (realtor). I can see this new knowledge being put to good use both against Covid-19 and in other areas.

Bit of fishing this afternoon, I never catch fish for some reason, fine, I'm not especially fond of most fish but fishing is relaxing.

I was very touched to be given the label off a wine I bottled 35 years ago, signed by my teenage self. The wine bottle long ago imbibed but the grandmother kept the label along with photos. Very sentimental. Its extraordinary how much a bit of grey jelly stores really, floods of memory returning I'd never have dreamed still up there.

How did the internet and orangina fit in with fishing and your wine label as a kid? :)
Comparing life way back then with now perhaps, but orangina 'breaks', still scratching my head with breaks. (breakfast???) :)
