Are you just wasting your life arguing politics?

I passed by an article the other day on how teachers are gently waking up Qanon kids.

Interesting, I'll have a look for that. I have to drive a few hours today, trying to decide to rent a car or long distance Uber, if the latter I'll find it.

Agree, just I have a premonition Covid is the headlight an oncoming train we can step out of the way from :) It seems accepted that as the population increases near exponentially, our species will be hit by more and more novel pathogens with increasing frequency. We have to get used to jabs and such barring breakthrough this all might bring.

By 2030 patience lost with the Archie Bunkers and conspiracy dwellers will probably drive them into silence on this topic but their seaweed dragging anchor is just getting more fouled. Policy is being introduced by many governments, Perú brought in a spreading disinformation law months back. I'm sure others have and developed countries will try to find a way to cool their heels while not doing the whole Black Mirror dystopia thing.

I know that in person, except when my daughter is around and her friends feel very brave nobody speaks crap like I read here (drinking hyperbole is fine). I filter the world so conspritarded does not enter my sphere in a way. I'm a big old benign authoritarian dad of course.

In America the right wing goes through cycles of loss after loss but they always comeback. This is a result of having a presidential election system, instead of a parliamentary system. The right wing a pretty bad dog in America. They’ve lost the popular vote in presidential elections in like 6 out of the last 7. Obviously, our senate favors rural states and the house is gerrymandered in the republicans favor. So they are able to get national power despite being 7 point dogs. And because of this there is no incentive to moderate.

So, I don’t expect them to be silent. Power is attainable here despite their minority status.

Indeed though why do we (generally) engage them?

The answer could be as simple as the desire to do this:

Sure plus morbid curiosity and whack-a-mole being a simple but good game for passing time.

However... The conspiracy guys have to be kept under better check and we need to find a way to contain them/de-network the stupid without losing our own liberty.

I saw this and Jem came to mind.

You're now slowly moving southward. Do you plan to visit Toulon or go further west along the coast to Marseille ?

There's a lot of festivals this time of the year in the area between Cannes and Marseille. People moving from village to village in their boats to enjoy the festivals.

My first job was a summer gig in Toulon while my mother was on a documentary assignment there...her first freelance assignment. We did a lot of hiking that summer. It was the only summer I spent in France as a teenager instead of in South Dakota with my grandmother...a summer I wanted to learn more about my mom's photography and her preparation.

I'm unsure, I have promised a childhood friend I would visit her In Port Vendres, near Collure which is nearly Spain. I don't know anything about Toulon really, worth a look? I'm back in Saint Tropez, bit of work today and then we shall see :)

Breakfast.. I want a really good grapefruit this morning and coffee and croiss.. Basically everything.

I'm big on military stuff and maritime life (living in ports)...Musée National de la Marine and Mémorial du Débarquement et de la Libération en Provence. Nearby villages to Toulon and the architecture is worthwhile if you're into old French buildings like I am.

My mother and I stayed with a relative that one summer in Toulon. There was this young woman (opera singer) that practice many nights with the most beautiful voice...she worked at the Toulon Opéra...another place to see if you're into opera...very impressive place although I'm not sure if they do tours.

I use to go there with my grandparents.

Yet, now with the Pandemic...a lot of changes has occurred with indoor tours.

My temporary French "health pass" is expiring so unless the new electronic one converting my foreign vaccinations comes though I may hit some snags with access to larger museums etc. which I am partial to. My contact with opera has largely been the occasional random singer though I have been to a few. Far from opera but I met the friend I must visit during the summer of Joe le Taxi as a teen (it was number 1 for the whole year I think haha) and have heard it a few times now. I think I must go south though I do like the greener hills here.

I have a rising feeling having talked to some people, a serious conflict is actually coming with China though the timing, who knows. They seem to have officially started a new "cultural revolution" (another great step backwards) to paper over CCP's failings and I was talking to a guy at breakfast who came back from China this week as it seems they have quite dramatically put a stop to foreign language teaching in large part, basically they are efficiently emptying China of foreign workers he believes.

There's worse motivation than the feeling of last-chance-to-see for while though and strengthning ties with old friends is a pleasure. I think I had the grapefruit of melancholy this morning :)

I got an updated heath pass so Narbonne área today and by train south tomorrow.

Yeah, seems grapefruit are a calcium channel blocker and interact with drugs I'm on. Perhaps some nice local kiwi fruit instead tomorrow.
