Are you for or against Total Gun Abolition ?

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

There are no statistics that disprove non lethal weapons wouldn't be just as effective as lethal weapons for self defense.
Er, okay. I definitely want to face an armed intruder with my beanbag blunderbuss or sticky foam! Yeah, those are SURE to discourage a would-be attacker! Good grief, who's the nut here?

NO FUCKING WAY! IT AIN'T ABOUT SECURITY OR SELF-DEFENSE!
Oh really? Since when do you represent the gun owners of America?

There are more guns, both legal and illegal per capita in America than nearly every other civilized country in the world....and our murder rates and violent crime reflect that.
The key here are the illegal weapons. Criminals have illegal weapons. Criminals commit the vast amounts of murders done with firearms, not legal owners! Your solution? Disarm the law-abiding gun owners. Yep, makes a lot of sense.

And oh, if there's a correlation between gun ownership and murder, why don't countries that have gun ownership on par with the US, countries like Switzerland, New Zealand, and Finland, have the high rates of murder the US does? Heck, Sweden and Finland have much different gun control policies, yet they have about the same murder rate. Your statement is a myth perpetuated by unknowledgable fruit cakes.

There is less crime per capita, and less murders of citizens by criminals by the use of handguns and other lethal weapons in fascist totalitarian states than in the freedom loving USA. Without doing any research, my guess is that there are less murders and violent crimes by citizens in Muslim states too.
No argument here. Nazi Germany outlawed weapon ownership by citizens. So did Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot. Turkey and Uganda are other examples. What's a little genocide compared to safer streets, huh?

It is the extremist position that I take issue with. It is the all or nothing approach that I take issue with. It is the unwillingness to do appropriate research, to try new and different methodologies that I take issue.

This is the neanderthal attitude that hapaboy represents, that is right out of the stone age:

"Crime exists because some people are just plain evil...born that way....can't change them, can't rehabilitate them.

So, we have to have guns to stop them, and if convicted of murder we have to kill them."
Yes, you're showing quite clearly what an objective, non-extremist person you are.ROFL!

Are illegal weapons a problem?

YES!!!

So the only possible solution to illegal weapons offered by the gun nuts is:

"Well, if the dadgum gubment can't control dem goshdurn crimnals, my magnum 44 sho as hell will."

Others would like to see such a confrontation as well.

heh-heh, I was wondering when you'd crawl out of the gutter, dGAB. What took you so long? Normally you shadow Optional/Beavis closer than Lewinsky got to slick Willy...:D

Anyway, you shouldn't be downplaying your boy Optional's ideas like that, dGAB, even in a laughable attempt to insult me. Don't you have his back? :p

Hmmm, not surprising that you continue to avoid the important issues and instead dwell on all you really have - an ignorant view stereotyping legal gun owners.

So now you expect the government to protect you and yours?

Sign outside Optional's house:

Marty Schwartz says several times in is book "Pit Bull" that he had to do certain things because of his obligation to protect his family. In his case it generally invovled going to the bank and taking possession of gold bullion he had. I recall him asking how he could ever live with himself if he did less than he could to protect his family.

I look on firearms the same way. How could I ever live with myself if I wasn't prepared to use lethal force to protect my family. No one is forced to own weapons. Just don't tell me I can't defend my family or my loved ones.

I use to be a supporter of gun rights but have changed......I have a simple solution to the criminals legit gun owners...

Set an amnesty date...say Dec.1st 2003

By that date each and every gun must be submitted for either confiscation or registration....If after that date you have a hand gun , you go to jail for one year....no questions asked.

In addition...If you use a gun registered or not in any altercation or criminal action....You go to jail for 5 years.

if you shoot the gun at any time in the above....10 years

if you kill somebody....death penalty.

OH WAIT!!..they already have those laws.....the problem is we don;t enforce the laws and let the lawyers chip away at every law we have

if guns are truly outlawed, then there will be many millions of new outlaws that hide those guns from the government.

Millions of newly alientated , ARMED, individualist people will a declining respect for the law, all over the country.

It will be a powder keg waiting for somebody to light the match. It could potentially be the worlds first libertarian revolution.

the reason for this is that the collective american psyche LIKES THE PERSONAL POWER OF GUN OWNERSHIP. Combine this with a pioneering history where people hunted and defended themselves, and lets not forget the constitution, and you have a powerfull mix.
