Definition of Trading: To exchange one thing for another.

At least you get the concept. So many don't. Sounds like you made a good trade. Lol

I am a speculator, I exchange risk for profit...

It may have been a trade for you but SHE was speculating since she will profit later as you buy her that new purse, dress, and shoes she has been eyeing at the mall.

No, I am not putting trader above speculator, albeit I would argue the trader takes on less risk than the speculator but obviously the traders short term reward will be less than the potential huge rewards a speculator will occasionally get. Both professions carry risk.

To the next poster, covered calls in and of themselves carry zero risk for the seller. But obviously covered calls do not protect you if the stock goes to zero. But it does reduce the risk...how much depends on how deep in the money.

Capping your upside with a covered call only reduces your profit potential, but it doesn't add any risk. In fact covered calls reduce risk or potential loss.

Isn't the purpose of the business - to minimize risk and maximize profit?

And according to this hypothesis covered calls are not always the optimal way to trade or speculate (doesn't matter how you name it).

All of those who "Trade" the markets are Speculators....period.

There is just a difference in Time Frame.

A day trader speculates with in seconds, HFT traders within mili-seconds...Swing traders, days to weeks and Long Term Traders, months to years.

Every one "Speculates" on a move no matter what time frame.

To call it by another definition is ass-nine.
