Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

Absolutely. My goal is to get to South America before 55.

I'm in my late 40's. I got into the trading game late, around four years ago. I had meager success, because I was under-capitalized. Then COVID-19 happened, which provided the perfect opportunity to liquidate my trading account and get a loan to execute a buy and hold strategy in the equities market. I grew my money faster than I ever could trading futures. I already returned the principal on the loan.

Long story short, I'm gonna hold until the end of 2021, after which time, I will return to trading.
Nice trade! I think you found your niche...wait for plague and buy when everyone else is selling ;)

Shouldn't be too long a wait, new strains are coming out more frequently now.
I'm sure Santa will bring one.

That's it! I missed the meltdown of 2008. Stocks were dirt cheap, but I was dirt broke!

I made more money buying and holding during COVID than I did trading futures. It's crazy. I caught stocks that were trading for a little more than a dollar, and now they are trading in the $10 - $12 range.

After the March 2020 sell off, in June 2020, I caught Luckin Coffee at $1.44 on the last day before its scheduled delisting. They got delisted due to refusal to show their books after an accounting scandal. Now, the stock is trading in the $7.00 range. It will probably go higher once they return to NASDAQ.

In about another year, I will be well capitalized to add futures trading to my financial management.

Ya makes total sense, change your name from batshit batty to dirt broke. :)

I agree that trading is hard. Finding an edge is hard.

But what gives me hope is the fact that I think there are far far far far more successful closet traders out there that we know about.

Think about it for a moment. People get nobel prizes to wax poetic about market effeciency.

But if someone wanted to prove them wrong, he or she would have to reveal their edge in order to falsify the statement, which in turn would nullify their edge when it became public knowledge.

I don't know about you, but I personally wouldn't give away my trading secrets that were making me lots of money, even if it got me a nobel prize.

Reality is forums like this are for those of us who are still searching for a way. If I do start trading successful, there would be no reason for me to browse such forums. Thus things are skewed in favor of nay-sayers here anyway.

(Heres hoping im this optimistic 5 years from now. Pray for me !)
Well, are you still as optimistic?

Don't worry there are loads of edges out there, think combination of a few small edges used in the right order which out does the sum of there parts in theory.

That's what I'm perfecting, my edges all get me profitable, but finding the right combination is taking time and the right mindset to trade them correctly to make what I want to be making.

I think I'm either nearly there or going mad at this point.

6 years on nearly still nearly there, depressing that got a like lol :(

Went mad a few times, trading plays with your mind too much.

No, all it takes is patience, consistency, and knowing when to shutdown your computer and call it a day. I blew through a couple accounts before it finally clicked for me.

Good work/hard to do real well without risk.
Almost all my entries/exits are intraday;
i never limit myself to intraday only or one income. I dont consider any kind of trading/investing, gambling.
More good news + bad news/any American is already rich compared to most nations.
