Are women better traders?

Quote from Renegen:

You know there was another set of data that showed women engineers had more rewarding careers than male engineers. Does that say something about female engineers? Maybe, but maybe it's also that any female who goes in engineering knows exactly what she wants while half the men going in engineering are chasing the pot of gold. Statistics mean nothing by themselves.

amen, dude....

isn't this f'ing discrimination and sexism?!

Nope. In certain activities certain genders or colors are better than others. Females are better at putting together small parts products, thus they are employed more favorably in factories. Blacks are better at basketball, thus... And so on...

Of course a conclusive statistic would be nice on the subject but it is nice to give the ladies a try...

how do you become a "protected class" in trading ? either you are good, or you are gone. where is the threat ? i have traded profitably for 13 years, now. No one i work with cares about my sex, just my results.

as it should be.

a second (even bigger) amen to that, dude....

In general females need a lot more time and information to make decisions (try going to dinner or shopping with a group of them) - wonder if that would affect their trading?

and hispanics are better at eating burritos, right?

it amazes me that some troglodyte actually still thinks this way. archie bunker, anyone?

If women knew how to get out of losers quicker, then you woul dhave said Cramer's EX-wife :)

Quote from Pekelo:

The ego factor in women is much smaller than in males, thus they get out of a losing position faster.

Example: Cramer's wife...

didn't mean you on that last comment, dude. i actually agree with this sentiment....:D

Trader's Magazine had an article on women traders actually last month or so and it was quite interesting since the women profiled were all in areas that were 99% men. (Floor traders for example).

IN short, NO....women are not better traders. A better generalization would be there are a few women who are good traders. Just like there are a few men who are good traders.

Over the years I have seen only a few women make it in this business, and can count them on one hand. (Now that is just an observation, and only in a small snap shot of the trading world!)

As for the emotional issues.....I have found no relationship between emotional control and trading success. Trading comes down to discipline. You can be as emotional as you want(ALA Schwartz, or complete detached such as PTJ), as long as you have the discipline to execute your plan, and do the work, you can be successful.
