"Are those Democrats or Republicans out there?"

According to the press, not a single member of Congress carries a gun in D.C (not meaning the Hill). Can someone explain why this is if they can easily get a CCW as politicians?

First, if a congressman has a CCW in another state, it doesn't work in DC because DC doesn't offer reciprocity with any state. It is likely that congressmen rely on their personal security detail and consider that threats in Washington DC are minimal compared to their home states because of the nature of the circles they travel while there. This will probably change.

Second, even though congressmen could get a DC CCW easier than you or I, they still probably didn't want to go through the hassle of it. They will now, probably.

You can click on the state of interest and see how reciprocity works. For example, I have a Florida resident CCW. You will see that there are a few states that do not recognize my license - not that I would ever want to go to any of those states (if you click you will see what I mean).

As pointed out in one article, most Congressmen travel to meetings across the D.C. area. This includes regular trips between D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. Including cities in Maryland and Virginia near D.C. which have varying gun laws. It would be difficult for a Congressman to get a carry permit in Virginia only and go through his normal daily schedule which includes events/meetings in Virginia and Maryland -- and comply with all the various gun laws in the D.C. area.

If you're really serious and you see no alternative to having congressmen carrying weapons as a matter of course, then why stop there? If you're really serious then you would also agree that they should also wear Kevlar protective garments and possibly helmets with visors along with ballistic shields. It seems arbitrary to just stop at handguns if the threat is so prevalent and there is no other means to combat it.

Also, what kind of holster would you recommend for participating in sporting events?

Ridiculous, right? Well, the whole idea of more guns in the face of yet another shooting tragedy is just as ludicrous.

I'm not arguing that it is complicated, just explaining the laws around concealed carry. Trump had at one point, I believe, suggested at a national CCW that has reciprocity everywhere. That would certainly solve the stupidity behind differing state laws. It would also be a nice revenue generator for the federal government.

Is it normal if I am approved to carry a firearm in one state to be arrested upon crossing state lines? What type of lunacy is that?

If the targeted victims were armed then there would be less "shooting tragedies".

I don't disagree at all. But it's a bit difficult when they're playing softball.

Certainly. I agree a common framework country-wide is needed for guns sales, gun ownership, concealed carry, etc. --- with rules common to every state & city regarding the rights of citizens with no criminal record to purchase, own, and carry firearms.

Yep. But it won't do anything to stop illegally owned firearms, or criminals that want to use them. I think we can all (except moonbats) agree on that one.

Yes... I have spoken to one too many left-wing advocates who believe the solution is to have the government confiscate all the firearms in America -- both legally owned and illegally owned ones.

So how are they going to seize all the illegally owned firearms that people don't turn in - have the police break down your door, search your residence, and seize the guns before arresting you?
