Are there firms that will train and hire novice traders?

Yes, JS is a brand-name high-freq shop. They've been recruiting at the high-end universities for several years. I bumped into them at a job fair for math/science grads at Princeton a while back. I strongly suspect the original poster who mention them is uninformed.

Perhaps Don should add a disclaimer at the end:

You will most likely lose your ass if you join up with us. Walmart greeters and hot dog cart vendors achieve a better ROI than most traders at Bright. However, we are more than happy to accept your training fee as we are obligated to take money from stupid people. If we do not take your money, someone else will.
