Are pivots useful ? a statistical response

Quote from funky:

there are many ways to make money with floor pivot #'s. in fact, i have been experimenting alot with this and have come up with many different strategies. soon you will be trying to figure out which strategies fit your personality. some will have smoother equity curves than others, but are a bit more conservative; and vice versa.

a good goal would be to capture the daily range. see how you can achieve this by using the 'time pivots' along with the floor pivot #'s.

good luck!!

That is extremely interesting

I check what the stats say about time pivot.

It is true that I intuitively find that the best pivot signals are the first ones

Getting long in the morning and selling at today's PIVOT made you roughly 10 points.

Reversing at the PIVOT and going short just made you another 8 points.

Total: 18 points

:D

I think my software may be plotting the numbers wrong or we are looking at different things. Are you talking about the ES today, Thursday?

Could you and Funky look at your numbers and see if these are the same:
s2 1021.38
s1 1026.50
p 1031.62
r1 1036.75
r2 1041.88

thanks,
jd

Funky, you seem to have a solid handle on trading the pivots. Do you have any charts of your trades you can post? I saw this question on an earlier thread, so if you posted elsewhere just point me in the right direction. Thanks!

You may want to try this calculator to compare vs. your software

I don't understand? You have some proprietary strategy so as you cannot share charts?

Seems odd - do you really think that showing charts would have an impact on your trading?

honestly, i have no idea if it would make a difference. but i don't want to find out! PM me....
