AR15 advice

Open carry is fucking stupid. i have witnessed guys open carry and they are always more aggressive due to the holstered sidearm. I was in Trader Joe's last week when this dbag was in line with a holstered Glock 17. A senior was writing a check and he yells out, "hurry the fuck up!"

These twats are emboldened. You have no way to ascertain whether the guy is a legal owner or some felon looking for the opportunity to do an impromptu stick-up. Get a CCW.

I understand that felons conceal as well. Every open carry I have witnessed has been a complete asshole looking for trouble. You gotta have the smallest cock in history to carry open.

Here in mainland UK, excluding ports and major stations you'll likely never see a gun. You get the usual marksmen at airports and there are firearms response units, but a member of the public with gun (in public) is a big deal.

A second hand anecdote: a friend, who at the time lived in south London was queuing at his local post office. A thuggish (Afro-Caribbean) guy enters, flashes his handgun held in place in the elastic of his jogging pants and through intimidation gets himself to the front of the queue. In the unarmed land of polite queueing this just doesn't happen.

And another: Back in the early 2000s police on the beat (on foot patrol) carried a truncheon and (newly introduced) pepper spray. Basically, think the stereotypical British police officer - "'ello, 'ello, 'ello - what 'ave we got 'ere then". But in response to a gang rivalry problem in my locality armed police were brought in to routinely patrol the area. So overnight we went from police with truncheons to police "carrying". I remember walking past them for the first time and thinking, "something's changed".

Apparently, according to the press at the time they opted for these (AUGs?) over the normal issue H&Ks to increase their advantage over the gangs.

I have trouble understanding why anyone would feel the need to open carry in a safe urban or suburban environment. I understand there are groups who do it to make a political point, but I wonder if they don't do the cause of gun rights more harm than good.
 
I don't believe Open Carry cuts down on crime at all. Concealed does. If you don't know who has a gun, a criminal is less likely to go after someone. If everyone openly carries, the sheep become easy to separate from the wolves.

Hmmm...I'm gonna have to disagree here, brother Tao.

Criminals are 99% cowards.
I believe open carry makes for more hesitation on the part of a criminal to practice his modus operandi.
Around crowds, shopping malls, restaurants etc., a criminal would likely feel way less compelled to do something stupid when the sight of arms reminds him it wouldn't be too good for him to "go crazy", shall we say.

Even where there is open carry, not all who are carrying, do it openly.

Bottom line is that criminals are dumb, but very few of them want less than what they perceive as (to use a trading phrase) a great setup.

Maybe. Personally, if I were a criminal in an open carry environment, I'd make sure to go after people not carrying, when people who ARE carrying aren't around. If I didn't know who was and was not carrying, I'd be a lot more hesitant.
 
Just get this and be done with it (~$4,000 as config). 25" OAL. 9mm Winchester white box (124gr NATO round) FMJ for range and general use. Perhaps some of that Liberty stuff, but I think it has too much flash for home defense. From this pic, looks like this gun is made from pressed parts like an AK. Is that right? Still worth the price?
 
No, the AUG receiver is pressure-cast (die-cast) by VLTOR. There are two captured recoil springs In the BCG that ride in steel rods--which ride in steel tubes inside the receiver. All contact is steel on steel. There are no stamped parts in an AUG. The thinnest section of an AUG receiver is 1/4" thick.

A chrome-lined hammer-forged bull-barrel that is rated by the factory to exceed 60K rounds before losing an MOA.

The AUG weighs over 8lbs. There is no comparison to that of any commercial AR. The build quality of the AUG is simply superior, and I just bought two ARs.

The stock is made of fiber-reinforced PA66; the strongest polyamide that is commercially available. You can autoclave the weapon with no ill-effects.
