pretty persuasive that it is good for AAPL.

Price: $499 4GB. $599 8GB. Ships June.
(He starts by comparing it to other devices.) iPod: $199. Smartphone $299. iPhone: Video, widescreen, multi-touch, wi-fi, Safari, HTML email, Cover Flow - "we thought long and hard about it..

they thought long and hard about the price.....

Think thats a little to steep for a phone. $600 bucks, can buy a whole laptop for that price.

When a laptop is $500 how can a phone be $600.

ummm.. take a look at existing pocketpc phones...

this price is brilliant for the stock and shareholders.

even I, someone who would never buy an ipod, would consider one of these things. i wonder if it has GPS ( i know he was demonstrating google maps).

the price is similar to what you would pay for a top of the line blackberry or palm pda. i think if they could price it for less they would. im guessing the production costs are just too high right now. if they managed to get it down to 200$ or less. they would take a lot more than 1% of the phone market, which is what jobs was aiming for in 2008.

as long as I can interface my wiimote with it via bluetooth. ill be happy :D

I would hate to see the laptop you are buying for $500.

I bought my first pocket pc in early 2003, cost $350.

Back then that was alot for a pocket pc.

You would think with cost and prices of this technology coming down that a phone like the apple phone would go for 250-400 max.

I'll admit, the Ipod is pretty cool - was able to take a massive amount of CD clutter, and stuff it into a little device I cant even feel in my shirt pocket - it's worth it

but arent people getting tired of over-engineered insanity, dufusses dressed in all black coninuously thinking up more crap we really dont need? stuff that costs more money, wastes more of our time trying to figure out, and further deepens an unhealthy addiction to electronic braceletts?

i've got an old star-tac phone. it works great, works everywhere, clear as a bell. if i open it in anywhere, such as a locker room, people know the phone isnt taking pictures

yet, verizon gives me crap when i call them about something, nagging me to upgrade. if it ever dies,, i have to due to the regulation requiring gps 'leave no duck untagged' law.

i believe in capitalism as much as anyone else, and people are free to buy or not buy, but sometimes i wonder why more of this endless 'brainpower isnt directed towards more usefull endevors, such as energy and environmental efficiency instead of electronic slavery
