No one is arguing that the Iraq shooting wasn't a tragedy, but guess what? They were in what was basically a war zone, only with lots of people who might be civilians milling around in cars, and there was a good chance some of them were insurgents with car bombs. The fact that no AK's were found afterwards really doesn't prove a whole lot. Someone could shoot and disappear.
To throw the book at patriotic guys trying to protect our people over an incident like this is deeply disturbing and makes you wonder why anyone would want to join the military or do security work. Then you look at the charges. They got 30 years for using military weapons the government had issued to them. Any fool could see that was a perversion of the statute. A formerly respected federal judge threw away the key on these guys after denying one of them the basic right to present exculpatory evidence. Prosecutors with an ethical obligation to pursue justice, not trumped up charges designed to placate the corrupt Iraqi government, pushed this way beyond the bounds of reason. People need to answer for this, but of course no one will. They were white guys from flyover country and no one outside their families gives a crap.
