AP: Tea Party Has Unmoored GOP from Big Business

A step in the right direction.

The Associated Press says the Tea Party's growing power and influence has unmoored Republican politicians from their traditional alliance with Wall Street in favor of grassroots conservative activists.

AP reporters Charles Babington and Jim Kuhnhenn cited the "corporate community's waning clout" and "the remarkable drop in the business community's influence among House Republicans, who increasingly respond more to Tea Party conservatives than to the Chamber of Commerce."

The shift comes as grassroots activists have re-framed the GOP's old "pro-business" stance into a "pro-free markets" positioning that eschews the kinds of corporate welfare and taxpayer-funded crony capitalism found in big government giveaways to industries that make hefty political contributions.

President Obama and Democrats have seized on the shift and have increased their already strong courting of corporate executives. On Wednesday, Obama held White House meetings with 14 top CEOs from some of America's biggest financial firms. Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein then stood on the White House driveway and scolded those who would "use threats of causing the U.S. to fail on its obligations to repay its debt as a cudgel."

Former Mitt Romney adviser Kevin Madden told the AP the Tea Party's rise has shaken up the GOP establishment.

"Now it's more of a bottom-up model, where you see these grassroots organizations and grassroots voters are now more empowered and they feel they have a stronger voice," said Madden.

LOL. I made this exact same point in another thread last night. Is the AP listening to me now? They could do worse.

It is beyond ironic that the most leftwing, radical , marxist regime in the history of the country is now in bed with big bizness. Of course, big bizness is not so much into darwinian competition any more as it is in government handouts, using government to hamper competition and cosy crony capitalism that works for everyone except the taxpayers. Say, has anyone seen Jon Corzine?

The CEO's need to remember an old adage: when you sup with the devil, use a long spoon.

They guy just won't talk to anyone. Even his most ardent supporters will admit he does little to reach out and get to know people. I've heard Chris Matthews say this many a time, and if Tingles admits it, everyone knows it.
Surely it's not because Obama is a shy guy. Quite the opposite. It is his arrogance. He has no interest in governing. He wants to rule by decree. His decree alone, like a King. More than that, a black King ruling over whitey. No one dare question the great black King without being labeled a racist. Just can't do it with our "racist" history. Your white guilt must trump any common sense questions. I honestly believe he thinks this way, along with his supporters.
On colbert last night (which i rarely watch) i heard tingles say that "at the end of his term, Reagan will still be a better President than obama." ouch. Now i didn't watch the whole segment so i'm not sure this is in context.. i know they were talking about the cold war and contrasting it to syria, so maybe it was in the context of defense. still it was funny coming from tingles, the crowd was totally silent lol.

Quote from Tsing Tao:

What's worse is that, when he was first elected, I was one of the people who had hoped that the election of a black man finally made it possible for us to put our past limitations on races behind us. Finally, anyone could be President (as it should be) as long as they were the right person for the job.

But now, after Obama, so many people are never going to want to elect a black man again. They're always going to remember Obama and what he did and go "whoa...we tried that once. No thanks."

On the one hand, I'd like to say, "let's hope".

On the other... if someone like Allen West were to run...

"Character counts".... West appears to have a ton of it... Odumbo has NONE, as we all now know.

Quote from CaptainObvious:

I agree and disagree. Yes, representatives should vote the way their district wants...to the degree which common sense will prevail. Yes, dems and the media are quick to point out the gerrymandering on the republican side, yet remain willfully ignorant about dems doing the same thing. Problem is, who is it then that represents the best interests of the country as a whole? The answer is a true leader in the oval office who can facilitate bi-partisan efforts. Someone who can get the children to play well together. What we have is an empty suit, perpetual campaigner who does nothing but drive wedges between these already opposeing forces.

Very well said! It takes tremendous leadership skill to bring opposing forces together and move them both in a constructive direction.

Historically

Democrats have been tied to banks and wall street.

For instance the Clinton administration was dominated by Goldman and of course Rubin's guys.

Historically Republicans have been more tied to manufacturers and oil.

I once read a thread on currencies here on et where someone posted to a nice article explaining the strong dollar weak dollar cycle. Bankers favor strong exporters weak. Dems dominated by bankers therefore strong... etc.

Bigger Govt means better for the cronies.
Bigger Govt sustains itself by turning govt workers into democrat union members.

So if you are the in group of cronies you use the govt to strengthen your control and regulate away your competition.

Hence the rise of too big govt and too little freedom and too big to fail.

As thinking people its not that america has turned so stupid its that the other side has a massive plan and the brains and the strenghth and the money to execute it. The other problem is that they have at least half of our politicians too and drones.

Remember wall street supports Carbon exchanges and cap and trade.

Quote from Tsing Tao:

Sometimes it is difficult following your written thoughts, Jem.

I know. my first draft is like and outline strung together.
I should not be turning in my outline.

I will sum it up.

Wall street runs the dems.
The have for a long time.
They support big govt.
They have no problem with cap and trade and carbon exchanges.
(wall street also has some republicans
In the past there was tension between export manufactures and oil men vs finance men. those lines have blurred.)

Bankers like a strong dollar.
Exporters weak.

The majority of americans who believe in the american dream are playing against a very sophisticated group who like to be in control and work to pull up the ladder.

The IRS and big taxes are part of that plan.
They steal our production through taxes so that we can't accumulate and compete.
But, I do not really have a problem with the competition if we could just get the money out of politics.
