AOC - can she get any dumber

well to be fair most crime is committed by poor people.. not going to see Bil Gates robbing a purse in the street or shoplifitng haha

What are you talking about? People shoplift for many reasons. Look what happens to businesses during riots. You think they're stealing shit because they need it? You think Bill Gates is some sort of saint? Wouldn't be surprising if he had a number of indiscretions during childhood. Who knows? Maybe he took some dead baby parts from a Planned Parenthood for experimentation, on daddy's encouragement.

But hey, Andrew Cuomo chimes on in.

Bill Gates as in founder and previous manager of Microsoft Corporation? ‘Ole Bill probably broke more laws than the entire population of a inner city for a year, such as antitrust laws involving competitors and possibly employee compensation. Microsoft’s entire OS and office line could justifiably be considered a civil, if not criminal crime for its continued unreliability, security weakenesses, and privacy issues.

I didn’t say Bill was a bad guy, however. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has done great job of much needed work in the US and around the world, including addressing infectous diseases.

I doubt any laws broken by Bill include petty larceny or holding up a convenience store...

'Dishonest, callous and naive': New York Post lays into AOC following comments linking crime to poverty
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...-poverty?utm_source=smartnews&utm_medium=feed

The editorial board of the New York Post on Tuesday published a criticism of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a congresswoman from the Bronx, after she made comments linking crime to poverty in the city.

"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s reaction to the surge of violence in the city she represents is dishonest, callous and naive," the New York Post wrote in an editorial.

Ocasio-Cortez, one of the more vocal members of the Democratic Party's liberal caucus, turned heads last week when she suggested a recent uptick in violent crime in the city could be the result of people struggling to make ends meet.

“Do we think this has to do with the fact that there’s record unemployment in the United States right now?” she asked during a town hall meeting on Thursday. “Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent. And so, they go out, and they need to feed their child, and they don’t have money. So, you maybe have to — they’re put in a position where they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry that night.”

The New York Post, a more politically conservative member of New York City's media landscape and often critical of the freshman congresswoman, said that she was making excuses for people who break the law.

"Shoplifting is not what is plaguing New York City right now, and she knows it. Petit larcenies are down 7.8 percent for the year so far. Murders are up 23 percent. The number of shooting victims is up 70.4 percent. These are not robberies by desperate people; they are gang-related, drug-related, gun-related," the editorial board wrote. "When a man is shot dead in a drive-by, clutching the hand of his 6-year-old daughter in a crosswalk, it is not about going hungry."

New York City has experienced a bloody beginning to the summer, with 10 people killed during Independence Day weekend alone.

The spike in violent crime in America comes amid a nationwide conversation about police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement sparked by the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day.

Since Floyd's death, activists, celebrities, and Democratic politicians such as Ocasio-Cortez have called for local governments to "defund the police" and reallocate resources to community-based crime prevention programs.

“One question that is interesting here is that when it comes to funds, it’s not always just about the number of officers in the street," Ocasio-Cortez said in early June. "It’s about these police precincts that have tanks, that have military weaponry, and, frankly, have a degree of ... material resources and warlike weaponry ... that people ask, 'Why does a local police precinct have this in the first place?'"

President Trump and members of his administration have pushed back on efforts to scale down funding for law enforcement, painting it as a fever dream of "radical" Democrats who, they say, are soft on violent crime.

“You hear about certain places like Chicago, and you hear about what’s going on in Detroit and other cities, all Democrat-run,” Trump said recently. “Every one of them is Democrat-run. Twenty out of 20. The 20 worst, the 20 most dangerous are Democrat-run.”

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany singled Ocasio-Cortez out during a briefing with reporters on Monday.

"You have Rep. Ocasio-Cortez saying, 'This is just because people are trying to get food for the families.' That is preposterous," McEnany said. "The reality is, 63% of Americans in this country fear that criticism of our police departments will lead to no public safety in their streets, and 69% of black Americans — this is a real issue when you call our police cancer and talk about dismantling them."

The New York Post said Ocasio-Cortez's view on the relationship between funding for local police and crime trends is "backwards."

"AOC imagines that we’ll magically erase crime with an army of social workers and more money for schools, even though we spend more for education and welfare than almost anywhere in the nation," the paper wrote. "She lives in a 'Les Misérable' fantasy, where a department of Inspector Javerts hound men for stealing bread. We don’t know what world this is, but it certainly isn’t New York City."

deplorables gonna deplore:

In a brief but heated exchange, which was overheard by a reporter, Yoho told Ocasio-Cortez she was "disgusting" for recently suggesting that poverty and unemployment are driving a spike in crime in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic.

"You are out of your freaking mind," Yoho told her.

Ocasio-Cortez shot back, telling Yoho he was being "rude."

The two then parted ways. Ocasio-Cortez headed into the building, while Yoho, joined by Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas), began descending toward the House office buildings. A few steps down, Yoho offered a parting thought to no one in particular.

"Fucking bitch," he said.

hey guise, that stat everyone knows about poverty and crime being linked, ignore all that.

Let's see how much stupid can roll out of her mouth in a mere 60 seconds....

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez given only 60 seconds to speak at Democrat Convention
https://news.yahoo.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-given-only-160344661.html

Democrats have been plunged into a bitter row ahead of their national convention next week after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the firebrand left-wing congresswoman, was given just 60 seconds to speak.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez, 30, a lightning rod for proponents of policies like the Green New Deal and universal healthcare, will get less time than John Kasich, the Republican former governor of Ohio, and Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire media mogul. Her remarks will also be pre-recorded.

She responded by posting on Twitter lines from "God's Minute," a poem by the civil rights leader Dr Benjamin E. May.

The New York congresswoman wrote: “I only have a minute. Sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, I did not choose it, But I know that I must use it.

"Give account if I abuse it. Suffer, if I lose it. Only a tiny little minute, But eternity is in it."

Her extensive following on social media lambasted the decision as the party's "old guard" delivering a "slap to the progressive wing".

The row exposed the divide that remains between moderate supporters of Joe Biden, and those of Bernie Sanders, his vanquished opponent for the presidential nomination. Ms Ocasio-Cortez fervently backed Mr Sanders.

David Sirota, a former speechwriter for Mr Sanders, said: "Hey, at least AOC is getting a 60 second ad during the intermission at the Kasich Bloomberg Show."

The event itself, which formally begins Monday, was supposed to take place in Milwaukee, in the key battleground state of Wisconsin.

But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will be the first all-virtual party convention. There will be no single gathering place, no cheering audience, no balloons and ticker tape, and no backroom deals over the party's policy platform.

Instead, for two hours each evening, speakers will deliver a series of online video addresses, half of them prerecorded like Ms Ocasio-Cortez's.

Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton will be among the speakers.

Kamala Harris, Mr Biden's running mate and the first woman of colour on a major US presidential ticket, will speak on Wednesday.

The following night Mr Biden will formally accept the presidential nomination in a mostly empty ballroom in Delaware.

Mr Trump accused Democrats of "ignoring Wisconsin" and said he would physically campaign there on Monday as their virtual convention opens.

He called Ms Harris "sort of a mad woman" and "angry".

The president also took aim at Ms Ocasio-Cortez. He said: "AOC was a poor student. This is not even a smart person, other than she's got a good line of stuff. I mean, she goes out and she yaps. These guys, they're all afraid of her."

Ms Ocasio-Cortez responded: “Let’s make a deal, Mr President. You release your college transcript, I’ll release mine, and we’ll see who was the better student. Loser has to fund the Post Office."

Her comments came as it emerged the US Postal Service had written to election officials in 46 states warning that millions of ballots cast by mail may not arrive in time to be counted.

There is expected to be an explosion in mail-in voting due to the pandemic, but the post office has faced cuts recently.

Mr Kasich stood for the Republican nomination in 2016, debating Mr Trump numerous times. In a large field he finished third in the popular vote with over four million.

Asked why he was speaking at the Democrat convention, Mr Kasich said: "Conscience. There's almost hatred going on. This has to stop. I've had enough of this. I've known Joe [Biden] for 30 years. I know the kind of guy he is."
