This Democratic congresswoman just spoke some hard truth to her party
https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/06/politics/abigail-spanberger-house-democrats-2020-election/index.html

On a call with her colleagues Thursday -- less than 48 hours after House Democrats failed to gain the seats that their leaders and political prognosticators predicted they would -- Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D) stopped being polite, and started being real.

"If we are classifying Tuesday as a success from a congressional standpoint, we will get [expletive] torn apart in 2022," Spanberger said bluntly. "That's the reality."

She went on to highlight two main reasons for Democrats " los[ing] members who shouldn't have lost":

1) The pervasiveness of the "defund the police" message
As Spanberger put it:

"The number one concern in things that people brought to me in my [district] that I barely re-won, was defunding the police. And I've heard from colleagues who have said 'Oh, it's the language of the streets. We should respect that.' We're in Congress. We are professionals. We are supposed to talk about things in the way where we mean what we're talking about. If we don't mean we should defund the police, we shouldn't say that."

2) The talk of socialism
Again, Spanberger:
"We want to talk about funding social services, and ensuring good engagement in community policing, let's talk about what we are for. And we need to not ever use the words 'socialist' or 'socialism' ever again. Because while people think it doesn't matter, it does matter. And we lost good members because of it."

Spanberger knows of what she speaks. She represents a central Virginia seat that went for President Donald Trump by 6 points in 2016 -- and where she appears to have barely eked out a victory by less than 5,000 votes on Tuesday. Her race, like that of many House Democrats representing suburban areas -- Spanberger's seat includes the western suburbs of Richmond -- was far closer than most pre-election predictions suggested. The Cook Political Report, for example, rated Spanberger's seat as "lean Democratic."

Broadly understood, Spanberger was blasting liberals in the House Democratic conference for advocating policies and views that might be popular in their overwhelmingly Democratic districts but that endangered their colleagues in swing seats, where the majority is typically won and lost.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the most visible liberals in the party, immediately pushed back on the notion that liberals hurt swing district Democrats in 2020.

"You can't just tell the Black, Brown, & youth organizers riding in to save us every election to be quiet or not have their reps champion them when they need us," she tweeted. "Or wonder why they don't show up for midterms when they're scolded for existing. Esp when they're delivering victories."

Added AOC: "And btw I'm happy to cede ground on things that aren't working in some areas! But finger pointing is not gonna help. There's real workable & productive paths here if the party is open to us."

What's beyond debate is that Republican strategists took comments made by liberals within the Democratic Party and used them to blast everyone from Spanberger on down. As Parker Poling, the lead staffer at the House Republican campaign arm, told me on Thursday about the messaging that worked for her side in the election:

"If you put all of the messages into a single broad category, it would be the extreme leftward lurch of the Democrat Party. That was messaged in different ways in different districts. In New York state, bail reform was extremely unpopular and meshed well with defund the police, so a public safety angle was the most effective.

In some districts, it was 'Medicare for All' and the loss of private health insurance. In a number of suburban districts, we talked about pocketbook issues like higher taxes under Biden. And in other districts, we focused on the extremism of the 'Green New Deal.' And in south Florida especially, it was socialism more broadly. All of those messages fit within the rubric of extremism."

The question is whether the party -- almost certain now to have a professed moderate in Joe Biden in the White House -- will listen to the likes of Spanberger or continue to move leftward, driven in that direction by AOC and other high-profile liberals. Will they seek to pass centrist legislation that has a chance of passing in what will likely be a Republican-controlled Senate and being signed by Biden? Or does the left push for the boldest possible progressive legislation -- and let the chips fall where they may in the Senate?

Which way Democrats go strategically will have a real effect on their fate in the 2022 midterms -- not to mention the 2024 election.

What is often missing in media reports is that the small number of seats that the dems lost vastly understates the basis for their heartburn, screaming, and nervousness. You have large numbers of dems who were not defeated but won by unexpectedly small margins. Their ship may not have gone down but they took on water. I mean the republicans have this to deal with as well but their problems are being fully discussed. Just sayin, the dems problem goes well beyond the few bodies they lost. They have many more ships that are right at the water line now and unlike the Senate the House is always up for re-election.

Each district has its own story of course, but there are quite a few districts that probably held on to being dem because Trump was at the head of the pub ticket and Trump hating moderates and independents went dem or stayed dem. Trump is not going to be on the ticket at midterms. You could argue too that everyone will be feeling the burn with Joe at midterms but it seldom works out that way. Certainly did not even for the Baby Jesus Obama. And Joe is no Obama. In fact he is not even Joe anymore.

AOC, 'Squad' won't let Dems turn away from socialism, 'Defund' movement

Democrats' infighting over 'defund the police' movement heats up as AOC, 'Squad' refuse to back down
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democrats-black-lives-matter-defund-police

Some Democrats in Congress have tried to distance themselves from anti-police rhetoric following the party's underperformance in last week's elections, but left-wing activists and lawmakers are intent on pushing the party even further to the left.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina, Rep. Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania and Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia are among the Democrats who've tried to distance themselves from socialism and the "defund the police" movement following the election. But the party's activist base has said that won't fly.

Justice Democrats, a far-left group aligned with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was one of four left-wing groups who signed a memo Tuesday urging Democrats to embrace Black Lives Matter, which has called for slashing funds to police departments across the country.

"The lesson to be learned from this election cannot and should not be to lean into racist resentment politics, or back away from the social movements that pushed Democrats to power," read the memo, which was obtained by Politico.

"If Democrats cower from the national conversation sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement, then the only ones left owning this space will be the GOP," the memo continued.

Black Lives Matter sent a letter on Nov. 7 to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris requesting a meeting "to begin the immediate work of Black liberation."

The organization posted an update on Monday asking supporters to sign a petition in support of their request for a meeting.

"Black people cannot and will not live through the indifference of a Democrat-controlled government refusing to wrestle with the most egregious and damnable shame of not delivering for Black people — especially when Black people are their most consistent and reliable base," the post asserted.

Biden's transition team didn't immediately return an email asking whether they intend to grant Black Lives Matter the meeting.

The "Squad," a small group of first-term House Democrats headed by Ocasio-Cortez, added three incoming members who support the "defund the police" movement. That includes Cori Bush of Missouri, who has also called to "defund the Pentagon."

Ocasio-Cortez, meanwhile, has urged the party publicly to move further left and embrace its activist base, leading an "embrace the base" campaign on social media.

One infographic she posted on social media, titled "The Movement for Black Lives Turned Out Voters," asserts that "1.1 million people registered to vote in the first half of June amid BLM protests across the country."

The Movement for Black Lives is a coalition of left-wing activist groups, including Black Lives Matter, whose stated goals include abolishing both prisons and police departments.

"We believe that prisons, police and all other institutions that inflict violence on Black people must be abolished and replaced by institutions that value and affirm the flourishing of Black lives," the coalition's website stated.

Stop committing violent crimes and prison will stop inflicting violence on you..

Abolish prison...really? I'm pretty sure that the threat of going to prison for life is stopping a lot of people from murdering each other:

House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y goes after AOC's progressive socialist agenda. "Dumb-as-a-rock" AOC attempts to hit back

AOC hits back after top Dem reportedly asks ‘Do we want to govern, or do we want to be Internet celebrities?’
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ao...-or-do-we-want-to-be-internet-celebrities.amp

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., pushed back on Democratic leadership Wednesday, after they questioned whether or not the progressive wave, which has caught widespread attention, is actually beneficial to the party or to blame for the recent loses in the U.S. House of Representatives.

House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., claimed the “socialist” agenda pushed by progressive House members, including Ocasio-Cortez, has hurt the party and could be to blame for the seats lost in House races last week.

Democrats in the House, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who some have speculated could be succeeded by Jeffries next election, were expecting to pick up a greater majority lead – but the opposite occurred.

Though Democrats still hold the majority, they lost at least six seats and now hold one of the slimmest majorities in the House in decades.

“Do we want to win, do we want to govern, or do we want to be internet celebrities?” Jefferies asked during a private call with fellow caucus members last week, Politico reported Wednesday.

“I think it’s a useful conversation for us to have because the socialism message wasn’t helpful,” the caucus chair added.

But Ocasio-Cortez has pushed back on this sentiment and questioned whether this mindset is actually the reason the House lost seats.

Jeffries is right. These people are clueless.
I was doing some DD on Ford and (i knew this already i guess), but the Ford F-series pickup(s) remain the top selling vehicles in the U.S.
What does that have to do with anything? Everything.
It means "The Squad" needs to use some common sense, they are living in a Prius world.
This is exactly why Trump got 70MM votes.
The Dems used to be the party of the working class.

‘Defund, My Butt!’: Joe Manchin Says He Won’t Defund Police, Pack The Court Or Nuke Filibuster
https://dailycaller.com/2020/11/11/joe-manchin-defund-police-pack-court-filibuster/

Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin has made it clear that he will not adopt some of the more progressive agenda items that have been making headlines. “Defund the police? Defund, my butt,” Manchin tweeted, sharing an interview he gave to the Washington Examiner. “I’m a proud West Virginia Democrat. We are the party of working men and women. We want to protect Americans’ jobs & healthcare. We do not have some crazy socialist agenda, and we do not believe in defunding the police.”

Manchin went on to say in the interview — as he has before — that he had no intention of joining with more progressive Democrats if they made a move to pack the Supreme Court or end the filibuster.

“Under no circumstances would I support packing the court or ending the filibuster if there is a 50-50 tie,” Manchin said, adding, “I really think that when you break the filibuster, you break the Senate, and I’m not going to be part of breaking the Senate, I can tell you that. The Senate is a pretty special place because the Founding Fathers intended it to be that way. But they also intended us to work in a bipartisan way and to where the minority always had input. You break the rules of the filibuster, the minority has nothing. There’s no purpose whatsoever. You’re no different than a glorified House.”

Manchin was also adamant about continuing to support law enforcement officers, saying that they should instead be funding better education for police officers. “Defund, my butt,” he said.

Manchin’s vote could be a prized commodity going into the 2021 legislative session — especially if Democrats are able to in the two runoff elections scheduled to take place in Georgia in January. Incumbent Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue will face Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, respectively — and if both challengers win, the balance in the Senate will be 50/50.

Manchin, despite his differences with many in his own party, has no plans to switch parties any time soon. Referring to himself as “a proud West Virginia Democrat,” he added, “People just have the perception Democrats just want to give away everything. I don’t. I wasn’t raised that way. I’ll help you if you’re down and out. If you can’t take care of yourself, I’ll make sure we take care of you, but by golly, if you can contribute, get off your ass and start working.”

I'm willing to put my partisanship aside being that there are more important
things than politics.
