Anyone Trading BOT Ag Futures Electronically?

Quote from local_crusher:

I was also shocked to realize that the CBoT uses pro-rata matching for ALL of their products, except 2: (Mini)Dow and the 30y Bonds.

10 year notes are on pro-rata???

Quote from Pabst:

I don't use IB but ZC IS the symbol for the ECBOT's electronic Corn contract. The contract size is 5,000 bushels thus the contract's notional value for December delivery (5000bu x 2.57 settlement in ZCZ6) is $12,850. Corn as well as Soybeans and Wheat trades in quarter pennies, at a "tick" value of $12.50.

on ib cc details it says 1mln notional, it is not the case then and the multiplier [5000] is the number of bushels not the tick value, just want to make sure before i place a trade..thx.

What are the big data releases affecting corn, harvest estimates etc is there a site with a data calendar for the ags, what's their equivalent to non farms for the bonds? I don't fancy having a position when it kicks off

Check out www.iowagrain.com. These guys really know their ag markets and I'm sure there is a major release calendar there somewhere also check out their sample research letters, extremely comprehensive. When I worked on the ag floor the monthly USDA crop report was always a big release. Check out CBOT.com too there are release calendars there. These markets are much different than Treasuries, no major releases during trading hours, usually the news comes out sometime between 6am and 9am, always before the open. Good luck.
