Anyone gave up trading for a living?

Check out my LinkedIn profile and our company website. I did not think I was being vague. Most of the member here keep their names, email address, etc private. Even many sponsors don't provide detail. I want participates to know who I am, my background and what we do.
My name is Robert Morse and I’m with Victor Securities. We are Introducing Brokers and provide a variety of solutions for small and medium-sized Hedge Funds, CTAs, Trading Groups and Active Traders. If you are not familiar with the role of an introducing broker, we provide professional brokerage. We introduce business to the prime brokers and fcms and are the single point of contact for that relationship. However, all our client's assets and securities are custody at the prime broker or FCM.
My goal as a sponsor on ET is help those that I can help, with my 30+ years in the business and speak to members what might be a good fit for our business and where we can add value to their trading.

I gave up,yes gave up trading years ago. I even talked about how my account blew up many times. I finally had enough and realized i was nothing more than a gambler. It is impossible to take the gambling/ luck component out of trading. I made a living then i didnt.
Those financial hits almost killed me. Trading is almost like a chinese water torture, its a slow death. You keep telling yourself. " if i only stuck to my discipline ". Well, you constantly make excuses for losses and never admit the true meaning to losses; its gambling !
For those of you that make a consistent, healthy living trading: more power to you.
I have a home improvement biz and do very well and love what i do. You need to love what you do unless you cant consider yourself successful.

So you're a middleman taking a cut?
General contractor? Just curious...find this stuff interesting.

That is not how I would describe it because we manage the relationship. They are our clients and we use our relationships for execution, clearing and custody. "Middleman" implies that we just make a referral and do no work and have no risk. None of that is accurate.

I wouldn't say I gave up per se. I can be and was very stubborn, but I reached a point where I reasoned it would perhaps not be a bad idea to get a second education while I still was young and hadn't racked up any more debt than I already had.
I'm actually back in the markets now, but not to trade for a living. Long term, it may be a goal, but I'm not even sure I want that. Of course, I want money and richdom, but trading or grinding for a living is not a dream for me.

What kind of work did you get into?
I'm a former carpenter. Now studying civil engineering and math.
I'm not comfortable with the idea of being an employer, so I'm still on the fence about what to do actually. Hopefully I figure out something before I graduate.
