As an old, now retired, sailor, I kinda miss the 12-meters, but still enjoy watching.Pretty much nobody was. Those boats costs 100 MM or so, thus it is extremely unlikely for an average sailor to ever experience it.
Their theoretical max. speed is around 53 knots. They were doing close to 50 in 18 knots winds. At 53 knots cavitation occurrs at the end of the wings causing a sudden drop in speed.
Bottom line is, there won't be any faster sailing boats like these.
