that's correct. According to the law you can't support the old fascist party. "Apologia of fascism" is a good translation of what the felony is called, I guess.

I hate fascism, but I think it should not be illegal, as long as they don't use violence.

There is a difference between fascism in general and the fascist party, basically what Mussolini founded. Because of the past history you can't praise Mussolini or things like that. In Germany they do the same, and even stricter.
But you can go around saying that you hate immigrants, gays, jews, and all the things you can hate.
Besides, it doesn't happen very often that this law is applied.

Yes, in Germany they had Berufsverbot for both nazists and communists. But it's bad when the state want to decide what opinions people must have.

nah, fdg [fronte della gioventu] praises mussolini and the party has an ideolgy based on the extreme right. obviously it is a minority party [more of a movement] and has little if none political influence but yeah these arseholes campaigned to liberate rudolph hess, go figure.
