Any trader From Italy?

Quote from Bitstream:

each yr i get mugged 50% of my rental biz earnings...yet trading profits are taxed at 12%: that's the standard vat [iva] and applies to everything. we italians put up with obscene taxes...we even pay a tax on the tax for our electrity; a practice that has been deemed illegal yet forced upon us anyways.

And the "anatocismo" ,banks made you pay interest on interest, that's an extorsion , or even a tax on gas for the Abissina war (2nd WW) also contributes to Irpina earthquake that's happened 27 y ago.

Why is it so bad in Napoli?
Let me answer to this question.Apart from the landscape a society and local customs are made by the people.I know many people from the south living in the north and many of them hate the lifestyle of their native place and going back for holidays they can't stand it more than few days..Obviously as always in every situation you have not an 100% but on average there's a difference between the two sides.

Not to mention La camarra (?). When I was in Rome i saw local bakers giving away bread for free in Napoli as a protest against La Camarra.

When there is no rule of law there is no prosperity.

it's pathetic, really....how can taxation itself be taxed? moreover baffling how such blatant form of extortion can outwit an existing recent law criminating this very specific way to overtax. but most incredibly, well...maybe just the opposite, it's who, the govt that with the left hand wrote, approved and signed into law the banning of this tax over the tax scheme impost, while also deeming it a criminal act, thus punishable under the penal code... yet now with the left hand the govt writes an issuing order for a new tax over an existing tax all the while thinking of it as not such a huge deal after all...

Just a quick note about Italian Mafias. It's called "Camorra" in campania (the region of Naples), "Ndrangheta" in Calabria (cities like Catanzaro) "Mafia" in Sicily and "Sacra corona unita" in Puglia. Those mafias have a big role but it's not the only player

The problem is not the rule of law, but an entire cultural system that allows some things to happen, or even supports them. The Camorra is only part of it. A symptom, more than the real problem.
Things will change. Slowly. For bad and for worse

But you have a very strong Church in Italy - compared to France and the Northern part of Europe. What are they doing about these problems?

Now, this is an interesting subject.
Although some people might not agree, church is made by men. This means that some are tough:

and some aren't:

Often it's just pure hypocrisy. Yes, there is a strong church. How many people really follow it, that's another story.
Some of the biggest criminals are devout catholic. Go figure how they can do it
