Any psychologist on this forum?

With you being a European, and most European’s think Americans are idiots, I would expect you to understand the statement, “Most Americans do not have common sense.” …there I go generalizing again. [/B]

Among all the statements you did so far this is probably the most arguable and poorly based on evidence. If there is one thing that many Europeans admire and even envy in Americans is just pragmatic common sense. Hey, I'm not saying this is necessarily true but this is the way many Italians, for example, see you US people. Personally I do think that if most European governments had 1/3 of American pragmatism, instead of pointlessly debating problems and flipping their dicks around, they'd be doing much better.

Please also note that albeit I suppose you US people speak about Europe as if it was a real thing, this is not absolutely the case, yet. In Italy alone there are like 20 dialects, so different from one another to the point that northern and southern people speaking each their native language can't understand what the other is saying. This in Italy alone. And those bureaucrats are struggling to convince the world that Europe is real? No way. It will take far more than just Euro.

sorry to interject... shall we simply make that 'europeans', instead of the typical attribution to that dysfunctional indirectly elected thing called 'gvt'?

the only thing that unites us is how we see the americans.

sorry can't help it. no wait, i just wanted to say that a Bush would never happen in a european country, but then i thought of our italian friend. ... well, maybe i'd better not write this post.

europe's an extraordinary social experiment in progress... formidable hurdles in terms of social identities etc... hopefully after 2 WWs they'll get it right (and i'll go back  ) but right now traditionalism/protectionist nationalism is still v.much of the essence in each of the key countries...

when they start permutating ministers across european countries i'll take another look, but until then, there's more fun to be had elsewhere imo...

tokyo... 7pm... and there's a matsuri (festival, foods, beer, fun) starting kinda now a 100m from where i 'work'... now if you'll excuse me ;-) have a great week-end!

you must be kidding. you prefer tokyo to europe, because we do not swap ministers? i mean admittedly i've never been there, but rumour tells, it is a little ... crowded there ...

pretty long post for a guy who's so sure of his arguments methinks... what say u prof? inspiring?

My posts are long because I know what I'm talking about. When there is some topic I'd like to know more about but don't master yet, I listen and learn.

So if you like psychology I think I could even be your teacher. But you'll have to say "please". And then you'll have to pay me and it will cost you slightly more than 2cents.

more seriously, why do u think does psychology have such a poor image worldwide and how do we go about fixing this? who would be the leading psychologists of today and the latest key results / achievements from a scientific standpoint?

Well I really don't think psychology has a need to be defended by me, for the simple reason that it doesn't need to be defended. The scientific community has already accepted it since a long time because most part of today's psychology is conducted rigorously.

So if you really want to be taken seriously, please replace that "poor image worldwide" with something meaningful.

As for the references to Tajfel and memetics, they are a good starter. You could also study and appreciate evolutionary psychology and if you're male and would like to learn how to pick up chicks better, carefully read The Treatise Of Love, available somewhere on the net.

As for Bandler, I've just read your post on him. You can even take a look at this:

http://www.geocities.com/bandlertrial/bandler1.html

So what? Do you prefer to form your believes on direct experience or just on behalf of some reference on the internet? I know Richard personally as a trainer and all I can tell you is that he is extremely passionate and careful in what he does and absolutely one of the best in his field.
