It doesn't matter how good a prosecutor he is. Even if untethered from hitting back at the Judge's objections during the case, IOW, he hasn't been instructed to take a dive, she still gets to direct where the case goes and only upper judges who may oversee Smith's objections/appeals can overrule her.

And if it comes to that, I'm hoping they will act as the guardrails that she desperately needs. I'm just hoping that she was sufficiently chastened so it doesn't have to come to that. Of course, Cannon being an obvious Trump devotee, that might be wishful thinking.

Flashbacks to cases in Zambia and South Africa where the locals just calmly accepted whoever owned the judge won... I was involved in one poaching case where the magistrate who was class two, not a lowly three actually thanked her godfather, the defendant for a family party. Nobody batted a eye. She did actually fine him a token but you can be sure that the court never actually sent anything, lost in the post.

Look at the Rittenhouse trial. I expected he had a reasonable chance at self defense due to our god awful laws but the judge was anything but impartial.
