Any "Baltic Dry Index" Fans out there?

I'm a newbie to investing and had never heard of the Baltic Dry Index but find the metric useful.

Who publishes this stat?

Are there any other useful and lesser-known metrics out there?

Any comments and suggestions are welcome!

Does the Baltic Index correlate to crude oil and the CRB? Those may be better trading/hedging vehicles.

Unless your Marc Rich or Pinky Green trading bearer bills of lading on tanker cargoes, or planning on taking delivery of a supertanker full of crude it probably wont do you much good.

The best part of the Baltic is access to the bar for members when your in London.
