It's not free anymore, and IIRC, international calls weren't free last year either. I have some Skype credit, although I think international calls cost more .. too lazy to look it up now :P

No, not free. But rates are nice for international calls.

How much it will cost you if you don’t place an order or exit a position?

Depending on what service you’re using, an international call from US to HK could be as pricey as a few pennies per minute :)

According to the site, that is the sales number. Do they deal with trading and account issues?
I just want to know just in case i need to call next time.

From IB site:

+852-2156-7907 -- Direct dial customer service

Mon 06:00 - 17:00 HKT - Tue-Fri 08:00 - 17:00 HKT

Customer Service may answer questions on these topics:

- Use of the Trader Workstation.
- Routing of orders.
- Pending orders.
- Connection issues.

Does the HK desk speak English? I'm not sure if it's worth it though, because international calls are often pricey still.
oh my! Have you ever traveled outside of the town you were born in?

LOL

In many ways HK is much more English than the US. At least they don't want to take your fingerprints if you fly in (that's pathetic George).

How frequent would any of you who uses IB say these system outages are .... understand that these things happen but that just makes me uneasy that there would be such limited backup

Someone earlier said they hadn't seen it happen in about a year at least. (setharb, I think it was)

Why? Sheesh. Some of you folks are pathetic. Like little children. Shit happens. Deal with it. You were told what the problem was. The problem's been fixed. If you can't deal with these kinds of issues then find another line of work.
next time when I hit you by mistake I will say: "get on with it, shit happenz"....

IB seemed to be rock solid for about two years starting in '03, with maybe one outing a year in those two years.

This last year (not calendar, just 365 days, mostly '06 and some of '07) it seems like the IB feed has gone down at least three or more times, with '07 already having an outing .... :(

The feed also seems to go down intraday more often than I remember, although it comes back up relatively soon. If your ATS program is written correctly, that is not catastrophic, although it is still bad...
