"Car caravans” of looters made their way into Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, Gold Coast, and Irving North neighborhoods and the commercial district overnight, which officials believe was spurred by a police-involved shooting in Englewood earlier in the day.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said social media posts then encouraged looting in the downtown district, prompting the department to deploy roughly 400 officers to the region.

Chaos and destruction unfolded over the next several hours, as several posts to social media show looters breaking into high-end stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue and a Tesla dealership, with many using anything they can – even, in at least one case, a car, to do so.

“This was not an organized protest, rather this was an incident of pure criminality,” Brown said. “This was an act of violence against our police officers and against our city.”'

Brown said more than 100 people were arrested and at least 13 officers were hurt over the course of the events.

“Criminals took to the streets with confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions and I, for one, refuse to allow these cowardly acts to hold our city hostage,” Brown said. “CPD will not stand by as our beautiful downtown becomes someplace that people fear.”

Which? What do they say? Are they Antifa? Why would antifa have an interest in organising looting in this case?

Remember there ARE real and serious organized fascist groups operating and growing particularly since 80s, exploding since 2016. Antifascism needs a foil. Boogaloo Boyz is named so it sounds silly and not a threat, deception is their MO.

Exactly the same slow undermining was pulled in the 20s and 30s has plenty of evidence it's the far right driving this again.

Antifa’s perceived legitimacy is inversely correlated with the government’s. Which is why, in the Trump era, the movement is growing like never before. As the president derides and subverts liberal-democratic norms, progressives face a choice. They can recommit to the rules of fair play, and try to limit the president’s corrosive effect, though they will often fail. Or they can in revulsion, fear or righteous rage, try to deny racists and Trump supporters their political rights.

Now a reasonable argument could be that antifa is fuelling the far right to a problematic degree in 2020. Both groups are synergistically a problem however there is no equal balance. Antifa is the minor player. They lost in Italy, Germany and Spain.

If law enforcement is seen to be coming down hard on fascist groups, people won't see any need for antifascists.
