The mayor of Portland, Oregon said that it’s time to ramp up official responses to “lawlessness” after rioters targeted the federal courthouse on New Year’s Eve in a press conference Friday.
Democratic Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said that his efforts to oversee and keep the peace at demonstrations haven’t worked and that it’s time to ramp up law enforcement’s response capabilities, video shows.
“My good faith efforts at de-escalation have been met with ongoing violence and even scorn from radical Antifa and anarchists,” Wheeler said. “In response, it will be necessary to use additional tools and to push the limits of the tools we already have to bring the criminal destruction and violence to an end.”
Around one hundred rioters threw at least two “Molotovs cocktail-style firebombs” and commercial-grade fireworks at the federal courthouse and a county justice facility, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported. Some people attempted to break into the buildings in an effort to burn it down.
“Lawlessness and anarchy come at great expense and with great risk to the future of our community,” Wheeler said. “It’s time to push back harder against those who are set on destroying our community and to take more risks in fighting lawlessness.”

“In closing, once again, I condemn anyone who engages in violence or criminal destruction no matter what their ideology,” Wheeler added.

Oh, gee what a novel idea Ted.
The backstory is that Ted disgraced himself bigly by caving in and licking the balls of the loons and lefties but when it came election time they voted for someone else- who was even leftier. That was not supposed to be how the script works but he won by cobbling together the non-loon base and the semi-loon base who were not ready to go full-loon.
So he thinks he is some kind of moderate loon now or at least that is where his support is, and like any political hack he is pandering to where he thinks is support is. All of these clowns, Ted Wheeler, Pelosi, Feinstein etc all discover sooner or later that the progressive animals that they fed turn on them.
Wheeler has the same problem as LA and other lefty cities have though. Even if you are a lefty mayor and decide to get real about crime, you find that the prosecutorial and court system is so inhabited by lefty judges and DA's that you can't do anything anyway. Portland detains or arrests thousands. Then they are back on the street the next day and the DA ultimately refuses to prosecute them and does mass dismissals every two weeks.
Ted is also pissed because the lefties protested day and night at his condo and forced him to move out of the city and into hiding and Trump's forces kept the crowd from killing him. That ain't how it is supposed to work. They are all supposed to bow down and say "all hail Ted" . So now Ted is trying to find a different base of worshippers. The last pooped out him.

Same dynamic in Seattle. They have upcoming election for mayor in 2021 and the mayor is not seeking re-election. She gave the kiddies everything they wanted and they don't love her anymore and want someone even leftier. This is of course how it works when you raise kids by giving them everything thatthey want and trying to be cool. And the lefties there who are loons but really not interested in leaving the city or seeing it burned down have to choose someone who is just a loon, versus a screaming, foaming at the mouth loon. Same as in Portland. Or LA and their DA. The DA there is not even on the same planet with some people who are themselves loons. Not a good place to be politically.

Left-wing activists apparently punched Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler while he was dining downtown on Wednesday, according to reports.
The incident occurred the same day that the city's police department deemed unlawful a gathering of about 60 demonstrators protesting a Wisconsin prosecutor's decision not to press charges against a White police officer accused of shooting Jacob Blake over the summer.
Activists confronted the mayor at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday when one suspect punched Wheeler in the shoulder and left, the Portland Police Bureau confirmed to Fox News. No arrests have been made, but the PPB is investigating.
"You assaulted me. You just assaulted me," Wheeler can be heard saying in one video posted to Twitter as activists yelled at him while he dined outdoors at Cafe Nell's, according to The Oregonian.
