I actually expect that you don't know what the shores of Tripoli is all about (unless you go google it). Most patriotic Americans know it is about the War against the Barbary pirates.
Not true. I'm well aware the Marines were first chartered to dispense with the problem of Islamic culture around the mediteranian, especially out of North Africa, as it translated into piracy for random, booty, and slaves.
The NFL should pick a battle/campaign everyone can agree with and focus on that for a few minutes.
I'm sure everyone can agree on Jeffersons position on how to deal with the problem other than pay huge ransoms as most of Europe was doing.
This campaign should be remembered, as Islamic forces continue to demand a high price, and continue their press to bring this country down in favor of their supremacist religio-culture.
I would add that current political battles threaten to render the original Marine's mission moot, null, and void. The ultimate disrespect.

If you insist the flag represent all battles the U.S. has initiated, or defended against, the flag soon becomes vague, suspicious, and meaningless. But if you focus on just one battle all can agree on, maybe they could invoke a temporary sense of unity.

Ahhh noooo. The Star Spangled banner was written during the War of 1812, not during the American revolution. We had already achieved independence and there were no American colonies under British rule then. Perhaps they did not cover that in the video games you watched.

I'm more aware of that than you are. The King of England still thought of this side of the ocean as colonies, as late as 1812, when he proposed, again, to colonize them.
It was his intention to reimpose a brutal police state over the "states". Sound familiar?
